with the cheque
The generous donation, which was raised by the company by donating the carrier bags levies in from B&M stores in South Wales, has helped the RNLI volunteers pass the £50,000 mark in their fundraising appeal. The current total now stands at £53,733 – over a third of the way towards St Davids £150,000 fundraising target.
Jen Abell, RNLI Community Fundraising Manager said: ‘On behalf of the charity I would like to thanks B&M stores and their customers for their continuous support towards the RNLI. The £10,000 donation has been a great boost for St Davids lifeboat crew and community as the volunteers continue to work tirelessly to raise £150,000 towards their boathouse appeal.’
B&M South Wales Area Manager Paul Mcgleish said: ‘B&M stores in South Wales are absolutely delighted to support the appeal for the new Lifeboat Station in St Davids. Our employees from across South Wales believe it’s important to contribute towards the new boathouse appeal so that we can help towards providing the new facilities for the crew’
St Davids RNLI and their supporters haven’t stopped since launching the appeal back in July.
The king himself will be supporting the volunteers next month as Elvis impersonator Elvis Preseli joins Mike Chant and other bands at St Davids City Hall on Saturday 14 March. To round off the fun-filled weekend, supporters are invited to join St Davids RNLI Branch for a St Patricks Day Lunch at Bwthyn y Bwyd on Sunday 15 March. More information on both events are available by contacting the Lifeboat Station, fundraising branch or by following the station’s Facebook page ‘St Davids Lifeboat RNLI’.
The new boathouse will be home to the station’s Tamar class lifeboat RNLB Norah Wortley, which is already saving lives off the Pembrokeshire coast whilst operating from a temporary mooring in Ramsey Sound.
