Editor’s apologies over payments mix-up

Thomas Sinclair, Herald Series Editor, has issued an apology over a payments mix-up
AN OVER-ENTHUSIASTIC trainee sales assistant at The Carmarthenshire Herald mixed up her customer’s accounts and charged the wrong customer for the wrong adverts over the last few weeks, it has been revealed.
The customer, who has now been reimbursed, informed the police fearing he had been the victim of fraud, sparking questions from a rival newspaper’s journalists.
The customer said he was worried about the unauthorised payments as he had previously been the victim of a large scale fraud. The Editor of The Herald, Thomas Sinclair, who telephoned the customer to offer an unreserved apology, says that the member of staff, who had only been working at the newspaper for a few weeks, has been suspended.
Mr. Sinclair added: “Neither The Herald nor any staff member has been contacted by the police about any allegations.
“For the sake of clarity, The Herald wishes to make it clear that it is continuing its internal investigation into this error found in a single customer’s advertising account and a probationary member of staff has been suspended while we investigate the matter further.”
A spokesperson for parent company MegaGroup, which is based in Milford Haven, said: “There was an incident where a business customer, who had previously placed advertising, said that his bank card had been charged for the wrong adverts by The Carmarthenshire Herald. We refunded that customer immediately.
“In line with our strict company procedures, the staff member was suspended from The Carmarthenshire Herald pending an internal investigation.
Mr Sinclair said: “We process a huge number of transactions every week and it is very rare that we have a query and we deeply regret any concern and difficulty this error may have caused our customer.”

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.

A full and unreserved apology for this customer, but when members of the public phone up to complain they get fobbed off by the staff! double standards?
