Pembrokeshire Football Previews 13-01-24
It’s derby day in Pembrokeshire’s top division this weekend with a choice of huge local derbies to choose from as the stakes hot up. With drier weather so far this week hopefully all games will go ahead and the games will be well attended.
Kilgetty vs Tenby
We begin in Kilgetty where they host local rivals Tenby and the hosts are in need of a win after falling into the relegation zone last week. Tenby themselves would like to be a bit further clear of the drop zone and will see this fixture as the perfect opportunity to create a significant gap between themselves and Kilgetty.
Monkton Swifts vs Pennar Robins
Monkton Swifts host local rivals Pennar Robins in what is always a mouth watering fixture. The hosts started 2024 with a bang beating Milford United 4-0 at home and showed their quality. Pennar themselves started 2024 on the front foot with an important 2-1 victory over struggling Neyland. Bragging rights are all to play for here, last time out came out 2-1 winners and Pennar will be aiming to avenge that result this weekend.
Milford United vs Goodwick United
The hosts were uncharacteristically beaten 4-0 last week; it’s been very rare that Park’s team haven’t been competitive since promotion. Goodwick isn’t the fixture you want to follow up a 4-0 defeat as they’ve proved they are an excellent outfit on a mission. Not a game the hosts will expect anything from but the performance will be interesting for the hosts.
Hakin United vs Neyland
Justin Harding and his Hakin team will be chomping at the bit to get back on the pitch after last week’s disappointing defeat to Clarbeston Road. The hosts will want to keep up with Goodwick at the top of the table and games like this are ‘must win’ if they are to do that. Neyland may gain confidence from Hakin’s loss last week, however Neyland themselves lost last week and find themselves in a real battle for survival now it would seem.
Clarbeston Road vs Merlins Bridge
Third and fourth meet in an intriguing fixture. The hosts are on a high after last week’s excellent win and are level on points with Bridge and have two games in hand. A real interesting clash here between two clubs who will be looking at Hakin’s results and hoping to be able to break into the top two. Fishguard Sports pushed Bridge hard last week, but they showed enough determination to come home with the points.

Local insurance brokers help raise over £1,300 for Bluebirds Foundation
The Haverfordwest County AFC Bluebirds Foundation is celebrating a £1,300 boost this month thanks to local insurance brokers Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking.
A recent fundraising day raised £653.64, which was fund matched by the insurance broker’s parent company, the Benefact Group, doubling the amount to over £1,300.
Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking St Clears are sponsors of Haverfordwest County AFC
which includes supporting the charitable arm of the club, Bluebirds Foundation. The Foundation focuses on the prevention of poverty and strengthens the bond between the
football club and local people, including launching junior supporter clubs and community
brunch clubs.
Harry Thomas, aTrustee at Bluebirds Foundation said:
“We are extremely grateful to Lloyd & Whyte for further enhancing the funds raised at
our Foundation Fundraiser, held at the Ogi Bridge Meadow in collaboration with
Haverfordwest County AFC and we look forward to working closely with Lloyd & White again at future events.”
Leyla Phillips stated:
“Events like this show what community is all about. I think it’s great what the
Bluebirds foundation are doing locally for Pembrokeshire, and it was a pleasure to be
a part of it. Being part of Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking and the Benefact Group
made it even more special as we are proud to match all funds that were raised on the day which I’m sure will be a nice addition for the foundation, to enable them to carry
on doing great initiatives within our community.’’
The funday event saw bouncy castles, cake stands, a raffle, shirt swap stand, kick-up
competitions, and inflatable goal, alongside the normal match day activities, all providing
hours of fun for spectators and supporters.
And to top it all, Haverfordwest County AFC won 6-0 on the day against Llanelli Town AFC.
