NHS staff take on Parkrun for charity

STAFF from the Frailty Unit at Withybush Hospital took part in the Haverfordwest Parkrun and raised a fantastic £1,478 for the unit.
The staff took part in the 5k Parkrun in August at the Haverfordwest cricket club, whilst others volunteered, sold refreshments and held a raffle.
Lisa Marshall, Senior Sister, said: “I am so proud of Estelle and the team for organising a successful fundraiser and helping to raise money for our unit.
“It was a great team building day and we all had lots of fun. We are as always grateful for the support and donations we receive, and we look forward to our next fundraiser!”
Katie Hancock, Pembrokeshire Fundraising Officer, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you and well done to Estelle, Lisa and the Frailty Unit team for completing their Parkrun fundraiser.
“Thank you so much for dedicating your time to once again raising funds for your amazing unit.
“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”

Pembrokeshire MP praises Neyland therapy centre

Hope MS Therapy Centre commended for expanding support to wider community
THE MP for Mid and South Pembrokeshire has praised the work of a Neyland-based charity after visiting its facilities this week.
Henry Tufnell MP met with staff and volunteers at Hope MS Therapy Centre on Friday (May 23), describing the organisation as “an incredible example” of compassionate community care.
Originally established to support those living with multiple sclerosis, the centre has since expanded its services to offer accessible oxygen therapy, physiotherapy and other treatments for people with a range of neurological and long-term conditions.

Following his visit, Mr Tufnell said: “Thank you to the lovely team at Hope MS Therapy Centre in Neyland for spending time with me today. The team here represents the very best of our wonderful community in Pembrokeshire.”
He added: “Hope Therapy Centre provides not just essential treatments, but friendship and support to people facing some of the toughest challenges. I am truly grateful for the work they do.”

Dog lovers gather in Martletwy to support Wales Air Ambulance

A POPULAR Pembrokeshire dog show is returning this month and will raise vital funds for the Wales Air Ambulance.
The Bluestone Charity Terrier, Lurcher, Whippet, and Family Dog Show will take place over the weekend of Friday, May 31 to Saturday, June 1 at The Snooty Fox, Martletwy. The event has drawn strong crowds in previous years and is once again expected to be a lively, family-friendly affair.
Organised by Rebecca Woods and her dedicated team of volunteers, the event features a packed schedule of dog classes, stalls, food and drink, a licensed bar, a raffle, and plenty of entertainment for all ages. There’s even a large children’s play area to keep the youngest visitors entertained.

This year’s show includes major qualifiers and a wide range of prizes – with £100 for each overall show champion and £50 awards in the family, KC, and Pick and Mix classes.
Rebecca Woods, who founded the event, said: “This is our fourth year running the show and it’s always a really enjoyable weekend – not just for the dogs, but for the whole family. This year is especially meaningful to me as I lost my mum at the start of the year. We’ve been lucky with the weather every time so far, so fingers crossed for sunshine again.”
In previous years, the show has raised over £1,200 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital. This year’s chosen beneficiary, Wales Air Ambulance, was selected by public vote via the event’s Facebook page.
The charity provides emergency medical care across Wales, taking hospital-level treatment directly to patients in need. Crews are able to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions, and perform minor procedures at the scene. As a pan-Wales service, its aircraft and rapid response vehicles serve both rural and urban areas – and rely entirely on public donations to meet their annual £11.2 million funding requirement.
Mike May, regional fundraising manager for West Wales, said: “A huge thank you to the organisers for choosing Wales Air Ambulance to benefit from this year’s event. The Bluestone Dog Show is always a fantastic occasion, and fundraisers like this help us continue delivering lifesaving care wherever it’s needed. Every pound raised really does make a difference.”
