Pembrokeshire County Show chairman honoured with top agricultural award
CHAIRMAN of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society’s Board of Trustees, Mike Davies, has been recognised with a prestigious award from the Council for Awards of Royal Agricultural Societies (CARAS) for his outstanding contribution to agriculture and rural industries.
The accolade – the Associateship of the Royal Agricultural Societies (ARAgS) – was presented to Mr Davies at the Royal Welsh Show. CARAS honours individuals who have made a significant impact across the farming sector, from hands‑on agriculture to research, technology, education, and rural leadership.
Mike farms in partnership with his brother, Martin, and their families. He runs the dairy and arable enterprise at Good Hook with his wife, Ann, and sons, Danny and Joe. Martin manages a poultry unit at Cuckoo Mill Farm, producing turkeys year‑round for farmers’ markets and the catering sector across south‑west Wales.
Speaking after receiving the award, Mike said: “I am very proud to receive this award from CARAS. It means a lot to me. I don’t seek recognition for the work I do, but it is gratefully received.”
Mike’s association with the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society spans more than two decades. He began stewarding Welsh Mountain ponies at the county show in 1999 and joined the executive committee in 2001. He went on to become Chief Steward of Welsh horse breeds and was elected show president in 2013.
During the Covid‑19 pandemic, Mike steered the society through one of the most difficult periods in its history, taking tough decisions to safeguard its future. His leadership was key in ensuring the survival of both the society and the Pembrokeshire County Show itself. Alongside his show commitments, Mike is Chairman of the Pembrokeshire Hunt and Chairman of Fallen Stock.
An ARAgS award was also presented to Delme Harries, a director and trustee of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society since 2021. Delme is Vice‑Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, County Councillor for Bro Gwaun, a trustee of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI), and has worked for NFU Mutual in Pembrokeshire for almost 40 years. A former president of Pembrokeshire YFC, he chaired the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs Board for five years until last year.
Other Pembrokeshire recipients included Janet and Perkin Evans, William Pritchard, and Senedd Member Sam Kurtz. Huw Thomas of Puffin Produce was elevated to Fellowship.
The awards were presented by Mansel Raymond MBE FRAgS, Chair of CARAS Cymru and a former President of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society. He said: “Mike Davies is a very worthy recipient of the ARAgS for his outstanding contribution to agriculture and the farming community in Pembrokeshire. His commitment and dedication to the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society is very clear to see, and his skilful leadership has helped ensure the continued existence of our beloved Pembrokeshire County Show.”

A total of £597 was raised on the night, which will be shared equally between the two charities.
The Service thanked the congregation at Ebeneser Baptist Chapel for hosting the event, as well as everyone who gave their time, support and generosity to make the evening such a success.

3 Amigos toy bike run under way across Pembrokeshire
Castle Inn fun runners back festive charity event
THE ANNUAL 3 Amigos Christmas toy bike run is under way this afternoon (Saturday), with hundreds of motorcyclists setting off from Pembroke to raise funds for children’s services.
Riders gathered at The Commons car park in Pembroke from around midday before departing shortly after 1:00pm. The festive convoy is travelling along its traditional route, taking in Pembroke Dock and continuing through parts of the county including Neyland, Milford Haven and Haverfordwest.

The event is organised by the 3 Amigos and Dollies Motorcycle Group and has become a much-anticipated Christmas tradition in west Wales, with toys and donations collected for children receiving care within the Hywel Dda University Health Board area.

The 3 Amigos have been raising funds for children’s wards and health charities for more than twenty-five years, with their Easter and Christmas events continuing to make a positive difference to young patients and their families.

Special delivery of thanks as MP visits Haverfordwest sorting office
Christmas cheer for posties working through the festive rush
A CHRISTMAS message of thanks was delivered in person this week as Preseli Pembrokeshire MP Henry Tufnell paid a visit to Royal Mail staff at Haverfordwest Sorting Office.
The MP met postal workers during one of the busiest periods of the year, praising staff for their hard work in ensuring cards, parcels and gifts reach homes across Pembrokeshire in the run-up to Christmas.
Mr Tufnell said postal workers were going “above and beyond” throughout the year, but particularly during the festive period when demand is at its highest and delivery rounds are often made in challenging weather conditions.
He described postal staff as “unsung heroes”, highlighting their role in keeping communities connected and helping families stay in touch at a time when it matters most.
Speaking after the visit, Mr Tufnell said: “Our posties play a vital role in our community, and at Christmas that importance is felt more than ever. They work incredibly hard to make sure gifts and cards from loved ones arrive safely and on time.”
Staff at the Haverfordwest site were pictured alongside the MP, with some embracing the festive spirit in Christmas jumpers and seasonal outfits while continuing their daily work.
The MP also extended his thanks to postal workers across the whole of Pembrokeshire, acknowledging the dedication required to keep services running smoothly during the seasonal rush.
Royal Mail experiences its highest parcel volumes in December, with thousands of additional items passing through local sorting offices each day as Christmas approaches.
