Jones steers Saints to first win

OUTSIDE half Jack Jones was able to guide his St Davids teammates to their first league victory this season, as Jones scored two tries in helping the Saints avenge their earlier loss to Llangwm. The up-front battle was hotly contested as skipper Rhys Price led his pack well, with excellent contributions from brothers Ben and Carl Evans, prop Dan Murphy and second row Oli Blakiston.

It was the Saints forward play which helped control the tempo of the game, as their ‘up the jumper’ rugby was played perfectly in the difficult conditions. Llangwm looked to attack at every opportunity but were either met with a solid St Davids defence or handling errors eased any pressure the Wasps looked to put on the hosts. Jones’ two tries came from fantastic forward work, as the outside half was then able to break through the defence and touch down.

The number 10 was also able to convert a try and add a penalty as the hosts led 20-5 at the break, with Llangwm’s sole first half points coming from a Rhys Mason try. After the break, and with the elements, Llangwm began to string phases together and were rewarded when Andrew Brock touched down, with John Whitticombe adding the extras. Craig Challonder then stepped up and struck a mighty penalty which secured victory for the Saints.

THE SOUTH Pembrokeshire Short Mat Bowls Association – known as the Friendly League – has released the latest results following week eight of the competition.

Last week’s matches saw:

East Williamston 8–2 Cosheston
Kilgetty 7–3 St Twynnells
Reynalton 5–5 St Johns
Llanteg 8–2 Lamphey

The fixture between Hundleton and Carew was postponed, while Badgers had a bye.

Haverfordwest County Women make it two wins from two in Phase 2

HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY AFC Women continued their strong start to Phase 2 with an impressive 4–2 victory over a determined Morriston Town side on Sunday.

It was a superb all-round performance from the Bluebirds, combining sharp team play with some outstanding individual finishes. Striker Kayla Jones led the way with a well-taken brace, while Ella May Mumford and Tayla Gibbs also got on the scoresheet to secure all three points.

The win makes it back-to-back victories in Division A, further strengthening the squad’s momentum going into the next fixture.

Haverfordwest County now turn their attention to their next home match on Sunday 23rd, when they host Bonymaen Colts Ladies.

Sport Pembrokeshire Awards finalists announced

THE FINALISTS for this year’s Sport Pembrokeshire Awards have been revealed, with 39 individuals and clubs shortlisted for honours at the annual celebration of local sporting achievement.

Cllr Rhys Sinnett, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said: “A big thank you to everyone who sent in nominations. The judging panel had an extremely tough task narrowing down such a strong field of candidates.

“Pembrokeshire continues to punch above its weight when it comes to sporting prowess, and I’m sure the awards will once again showcase both on-field success and the incredible efforts of the volunteers and coaches who make it all possible.”

The winners will be unveiled at a gala ceremony at Folly Farm on November 28, organised by Sport Pembrokeshire.

The event is sponsored by Valero, Folly Farm, and Pure West Radio, and will also see the presentation of three special accolades — the School Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Chairman’s Special Achievement Award.

The awards recognise those who have excelled in sport over the past year or dedicated their time to coaching, organising, and supporting grassroots sport across the county.
