Milford Haven: Cambridge for Izzy after getting five A*s
A MILFORD HAVEN SCHOOL pupil has secured a place at one of the UK’s most prestigious universities after achieving outstanding A Level results.
Izzy Solomon, 18, of Milford Haven, gained 5 A*s in her A Level results yesterday (Aug 10) and has been accepted into Cambridge University, where she will study Philosophy.
Speaking to The Herald, Izzy told us that attending Cambridge University has been a dream of hers since visiting on a school trip when she was just 14-years-old.
She said: “After the trip I knew I wanted to go to university and it gave me something to work towards.”
Izzy had previously been offered at place at the university on the proviso that she obtained a minimum of one A* and two A’s, however her position was concreted after obtaining an A* across all five of her chosen subjects – English, History, Religious Studies, Sociology and Welsh Bacc.
Speaking on Izzy’s tremendous achievement, Head Teacher Ceri-Ann Morris said: “Izzy has continuously worked hard throughout her whole school life here at Milford Haven School, and now that has paid off with an incredible university offer.
“We are so very proud of Izzy and this fantastic achievement, but also proud of her consistent positive engagement in school and the example she has set in grabbing with both hands any and all opportunities that were available to her while she was a pupil of Milford Haven School. I know that Izzy knows there is no secret to success and no shortcuts to be found, and that success is simply the result of hard work, dedication and persistence and in such unprecedented times.
“We wish Izzy every success for the bright future that lies ahead, along with all our pupils who have also succeeded in their university places this summer. We are immensely proud of the achievements of our young people and while we rejoice in the success of those who achieve the highest accolades, we celebrate equally those students who find the demands more challenging yet still reach or exceed expectations, through hard work, commitment and passion for their subjects. They are a credit to our community and I wish them all every success in their futures.”
When asked how the disruption that lockdowns have caused on her education of the last 18 months, Izzy told us that did not struggle too much thanks to the incredible support she has received from her teachers throughout the pandemic.
Speaking on heading off to Cambridge, Izzy said: “I am excited, Once I got my results I knew I was ready for university then.”

A trial is due to begin on August 3 and is expected to last around six weeks. A further pre-trial review has been scheduled for July 24.
All four defendants were remanded in custody.
Paying tribute after his death, Tristan’s family described him as a “deeply loved son, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend.”
They said he was quick-witted, with a love for motorbikes and adventure, adding that he had a natural energy that lit up every room and drew people towards him.
