Bluebirds thump Aber to continue fine form

HAVERFORDWEST County continued their fine run of form on Tuesday night (Mar 15) as they beat Aberystwyth Town 6-0 at Park Avenue.

Having put six past Cefn Druids on Saturday, County were in confident mood and determined to erase the memories of their last trip to Park Avenue which saw them beaten 2-0 in Aber’s 1000th JD Cymru Premier game.

It was a much different story this time around and after an even opening, the first chance fell the way of County as they broke quickly but Aber keeper Alex Pennock made an excellent save to deny Alhagi Touray Sisay.

That was a warning shot for Aber and just six minutes Sisay did found the net as he poked the ball past Pennock from close range.

Aber then had two good chances to equalise as Jamie Veale saw a shot hit the crossbar and fall down into the arms of Lee Idzi.

A minute later the ball was played into the box for Steff Davies but he couldn’t get the ball out of his feet to prod home.

On 38 minutes a mistake from County let in Davies but his long range shot went into the arms of Idzi.

The Bluebirds held on to their 1-0 lead at the break but just a minute into the second half they doubled their lead.

A long throw into the box found Sisay who, with his back to goal, flicked the ball on and it hit the post and nestled into the net.

Aber almost pulled a goal back when Sam Phillips chased down Lee Idzi but his block deflected wide.

On the hour mark County made it 3-0 as the ball was slipped in for Sisay who curled the ball in to seal his hat trick.

With ten minutes to go things went from bad to worse for the home side as Lee Jenkins was shown a red card and the Bluebirds were awarded a penalty.

Jordan Davies converted the spot kick to make it 4-0 but they weren’t done there.

Four minutes later Corey Shephard got his name on the scoresheet and a minute from time Henry Jones added County’s sixth as he scored at the front post.

It was a memorable night for the Bluebirds who move to within a point of Cardiff Met at the top of the Play-off conference.

County’s next game takes place on Saturday, March 26, when they host Connah’s Quay Nomads at the Ogi Bridge Meadow, kick off 2:30pm.

Herbrandston 0 – St Ishmaels 6

BRENNAN DEVONALD delivered a masterclass as St Ishmaels thrashed Herbrandston 6-0, with the skipper leading from the front and scoring a stunning hat-trick. The comprehensive victory propels St Ishmaels to eighth in the league table, while Herbrandston remain rooted to the bottom without a single point.

The visitors asserted their dominance from the outset. Devonald opened the scoring in the 9th minute, latching onto a pinpoint assist from Owen Lawrence. He doubled their lead just before halftime in the 40th minute, again set up by Lawrence, giving St Ishmaels a comfortable cushion at the break.

St Ishmaels maintained their momentum in the second half, adding four more goals to cap off a stellar team performance. Adam Kingsbeer’s clever play set up Ieuan Hawkins for the third, before Tom Williams capitalised on another opportunity to make it 4-0. Devonald sealed his hat-trick in the 85th minute with an expertly taken goal, and Joel Mills added the finishing touch in the dying moments, courtesy of an assist from Sol Goodall.

Goodwick United put on a commanding performance with a 7-0 triumph over Carew. The home side proved too powerful for their opponents, with Rhys Dalling and Rhys Jones each bagging two goals.
