Suspended sentence for Pembroke man for drug and driving offences

A PEMBROKE man who faced drug and driving offences had been handed a suspended custodial sentence.

Matthew Pritchard of Station Road, Pembroke, faced eight charges when they appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 10.

Dennis Davies for the CPS told the court how on June 11, at Milford Haven, Pritchard was alleged to have been in possession of a number of illegal drugs.

On the same day it is alleged that 28-year-old Pritchard also drove a BMW whilst disqualified, without any valid insurance and was also unfit to drive through drugs.

Pritchard was found to have in his possession 1.03g of cocaine a Class A drug and 420mg of Diazepam a Class C drug.

Further charges of Possession of a class C drug, attempt to possess a Class A drug and driving without due care and attention were dismissed due to lack of evidence.

Magistrates imposed a total of a 12 week custodial sentence suspended for 12 months.

Pritchard was also disqualified from driving for 40 months for the charge of driving whilst disqualified.

A forfeiture and destruction order was granted for the drugs.

The defendant must also pay £85 court costs and a £154 victim surcharge.

Arrest after fatal Carmarthenshire hit-and-run

A MAN has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run collision in Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire, on Monday (December 23), which claimed the life of 38-year-old Aaron Jones.

The incident happened near Caer Salem Baptist Chapel between 6:45pm and 7:45pm while Aaron was walking his dog. Police said the vehicle involved, a blue car with noticeable damage, was travelling northbound through the village at the time of the collision.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that the vehicle believed to have been involved has now been located, and a 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop for a collision, and failing to report a collision.

Specially trained officers are supporting Aaron’s family, who have asked for privacy during this difficult time.

A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the vehicle or has dashcam footage from the area during the relevant times to contact us immediately.”

The road remains closed while investigations continue, and residents can expect an increased police presence in the area.
