A TEAM from Tasker Milward School has raced into the finals of a leading Technology competition.

The five Year 11 pupils from the Haverfordwest school took part in the regional heats of the F1 in Schools racing car challenge last week in Swansea – along with their Technology teacher Anthony Llewellyn.

The pupils were set the challenge of setting up a business team and designing and making a model racing car powered by a CO2 cartridge. Their car – and those of the 24 other competing teams- were then raced down a 25-metre track.

The Tasker pupils successfully delivered their marketing pitch and raced their car straight into the national finals which will be held in Manchester on March 14 and 15.

Patient care concerns raised

Students have warned the decision could impact patient care if fewer fully qualified paramedics are deployed on the frontline.

They say being redirected into lower-grade roles means their full clinical training will not be used.

One student told The Herald: “We are ready to go straight into frontline care. Instead, we’re being told to look abroad. It doesn’t make sense.”

Government under pressure

A Welsh Government response seen by The Herald acknowledges the issue and says ministers are working with the ambulance service and universities to support affected graduates.

However, the internal email suggests the decision is already firm for the coming financial year.
