Milford Haven: New councillor plans to improve communication with community
MILFORD HAVEN’S latest town councillor wants to improve communication with the community, and plans
to do so through social media.
Rhys Williams, 24, was elected in March to the town’s central ward, vfollowing the resignation of Councillor Byron Jenkins’ resignation before Christmas.
Cllr Williams explained that the Town Council has done a good job publicising their work, but that he felt more could be done to engage with the community.
He said: “The most frequently asked question I have received is ‘What does a town or community council do?’ I think it is extremely important to encourage healthy debate and discussion around the work of the town council that is why I have set up a Facebook page to actively communicate with the community.”
Councillor Williams went on to say that his interest in politics is rooted in the conversations he had with his grandfather about current affairs.
He recalled: “I remember how passionate he was, and it really inspired me to make a difference.”
This motivates him to get the youth of Milford Haven involved in local politics, and by recently joining the council’s Youth Working Group, Councillor Williams hopes to encourage youngsters to ask questions and to have a say about what happens in their town.
He was also keen to stress the importance of tourism to Pembrokeshire, and feels Milford Haven could be promoted as a key tourist hub of the county. As well as this, Cllr Williams wishes to tackle things he considers to be a ‘big problem’ in Milford Haven, such as dog mess, limited parking and leftover waste after the collection of bins.
Currently working for the marketing department of Bluestone National Park Resort, Cllr Williams lives in Milford Haven with his partner and Millie, their two-year old golden retriever.

Tigers second division Cup Champions
In a thrilling Pembrokeshire Division Two Cup final under the floodlights of Bridge Meadow Stadium, fans witnessed an epic battle between Monkton Swifts reserves and Johnston. Despite Monkton Swifts reserves being touted as favorites, Johnston proved their mettle from the outset.
The game kicked off with a burst of energy as Johnston’s center half, Craig Bendall, seized an early opportunity to put his team ahead just ten minutes into the match. However, Monkton Swifts’ prolific Scotsman, Davis, swiftly responded with an equalizer, showcasing the resilience of the favourites.
The momentum shifted again when the dynamic duo of Alfie and Scott Crawford of Johnston orchestrated a beautifully executed goal, putting Johnston back in the lead at 2-1.
As the game progressed, Monkton Swifts brought in reinforcements, including Ben Steele, to regain control. Their efforts paid off when Jordan Kilby leveled the score at 2-2 with just under 20 minutes remaining.
But the Crawfords had other plans. Combining once more, Scott provided the assist for Alfie, who coolly finished to put Johnston ahead once again.
With time running out, Monkton Swifts launched a relentless onslaught in search of an equalizer. However, Johnston’s defense held firm, defying the odds to clinch the Division Two Cup title in a memorable victory.
