Pembs skittle SWCA
THE Pembrokeshire League proved too strong for their South Wales Cricket Association (SWCA) opponents on Sunday (Jun 30) as they earned a big win.
Earlier in the month, the SWCA had beaten Pembrokeshire at Pembroke Dock but it was a different story this time around in Llandysul.
Pembrokeshire batted first and started well as Neyland openers Nick Koomen and Patrick Bellerby shared 82 runs for the first wicket.
Koomen hit six fours as he scored 36 but he was then stumped by Bleddyn Morgan off the bowling of Tom Clarke.
Bellerby continued his fine form with another good knock of 64 with eight fours and a six before he was caught off the bowling of Joe Swift.
Joe Kiff and Toby Hayman continued to put runs on the board with Kiff scoring 27 before he was trapped leg before by Clarke.
Hayman hit a four and a six as he scored 25 but he was then caught by Ben Edkins off the bowling of Swift.
Ross Hardy and Brad Mcdermott-Jenkins both fell cheaply in the same manner as they were caught by Julian Griffiths off the bowling of Swift.
That left Pembrokeshire on 188-6 but Jonathan Thomas and Tom Davies batted on to take their score over 200.
Davies hit two fours and a six in his score of 25 but he was then caught by Edkins off the bowling of Yakoob Ali.
Thomas finished not out on 23 to help Pembrokeshire post 221-7 in their innings.
The SWCA got off to a bad start in their reply as opener Robbie Crawford was caught by Sean Hannon off the bowling of Tom Davies.
Davies then took the catch to dismiss Ben Edkins and give Henry Durrant his first wicket. Wickets continued to fall and they were soon 16-3 as Yakoob Ali was run out on a score of 8.
Jack Donovan was next to fall as he was caught by Jonathan Thomas off the bowling of Davies. Davies also bowled Ieuan Paske as the SWCA slipped to 29-5.
Bleddyn Morgan was the first batsman to reach double figures but he was then out on a score of 12 to the bowling of Andrew Pawlett.
That made the score 34-6 but Iestyn Scourfield and Julian Griffiths offered some resistance.
They shared 24 runs but Scourfield was then caught by former Whitland team-mate Thomas on a score of 18.
That gave Ceri Brace his first wicket and he then got another as he had Julian Griffiths caught by Patrick Bellerby on a score of 14.
Ross Hardy then trapped Tom Clarke leg before for a duck as SWCA were reduced to 67-9.
Jonathan Cheal made a late score of 23 but he was eventually caught by Nick Koomen off the bowling of Thomas.
It meant the SWCA were all out for 91, giving Pembrokeshire victory by 130 runs.
A Pembrokeshire side will next be in action on Tuesday, July 16, when they take on Glamorgan seconds at Whitland.

Promotion, relegation and everything in between.
As we come to the end of the 2023-2024 season it’s time to look at the winners and losers so to speak as most promotion and relegation battles are now all sewn up.
We begin at the very top where Goodwick United have blown away the first division to become deserved champions elect. At the opposite end of the table Fishguard Sports struggled all season and we comfortably relegated, going down with them are Neyland who’s relegation was confirmed a few weeks ago. Neither team were cut adrift and battled right until the end which is credit to both outfits, sometimes relegation can act as a spring broad and both clubs will be hoping this is the case.
Monkton Swifts reserves were the outstanding team in the second division and were a cut above the rest on their journey to becoming league champions on 56 points with an impressive plus 61 goal difference. As Monkton can’t be promoted due to their first team being in the first division it allowed both Herbrandston and St Ishmaels to be promoted. Herbrandston finished in third on 40 points, whilst the Mice just beat them to second place ending up on 42 points. Both clubs will now use the summer to prepare for the step up that awaits.
At the opposite end of the division, Cosheston never really got going and after their points deduction ended on a lowly 6 points which is never going to be enough to avoid relegation. The second relegation place was much closer with St Clears, Carew reserves and Broad Haven all being in a dog fight for the majority of the season. Broad Haven showed good fight and character which steered them clear of trouble while Carew found form at a key time, which means St Clears will play their football in the third division next season.
