Council appoints Ocky White designers
PEMBROKESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL has appointed design and engineering consultants Atkins, Faithful and Gould as plans commence to regenerate Haverfordwest.
Seen as a vital part of the authority’s regeneration programme, the work will seek to link Haverfordwest Castle, the former Ocky White building on Bridge Street and the new riverside flagship library and gallery, aiming to create a town that realises its potential as a destination for tourists and locals alike.
The regeneration of Haverfordwest will aim to create a vibrant ‘destination town’, incorporating new homes as well as leisure and work opportunities, all within a vision that draws on Pembrokeshire’s significant – but often all too hidden – historical and cultural importance.
With recent proposals for a spacious, modern ‘food emporium’ in the town receiving favourable feedback, the regeneration plans will now look to place Pembrokeshire’s independent food businesses front and centre in a move that highlights the best of what the county has to offer.
Pembrokeshire County Council and project partners are holding a Redevelopment Consultation Event on Thursday September 19 in County Hall, Haverfordwest between 4pm and 8pm.
The event aims to discuss the proposals that are currently in place as well as offering the opportunity for public insight to play a role in the reshaping of the town, with residents invited to share ideas and suggestions on the proposed redevelopment options.
Councillor Paul Miller, Cabinet Member for Economy, Tourism, Leisure and Culture said: “We continue to be determined as an administration to prioritise supporting the Pembrokeshire economy. We know if we want to see change, we need to be the catalyst for that change and we welcome the publics’ input as we look to shape the future of Haverfordwest.”

Mother admits to killing seven-year-old son in Haverfordwest
A mother has admitted to the manslaughter of her seven-year-old son at their home in Haverfordwest, citing diminished responsibility.
Papaipit Linse, 43, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Friday (Nov 22), where she denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of her son, Louis Linse. Prosecutor Caroline Rees KC confirmed the manslaughter plea would be accepted, stating it “did not come as a surprise” to the prosecution.
The incident occurred on 10 January when police were called to a property on Upper Market Street. Louis was rushed to Withybush General Hospital but tragically died shortly afterwards.
During the hearing, Linse, who spoke only to confirm her name and enter her pleas, was informed that she would be sentenced on 13 December. Judge Paul Thomas KC described the case as “clearly a very sensitive as well as a very tragic case.”
The court was told that Linse is currently receiving treatment at the Caswell Clinic, a mental health facility in Bridgend. Psychiatric evidence is expected to be presented during the sentencing hearing to provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding the case.
