Accusations that Voice of Wales are ‘racist broadcasters’

THE BBC has been investigating YouTube channel, The Voice of Wales, following accusations of racism.

The channel started broadcasting last summer co-inciting with the opening of the Penally Asylum Centre.

Videos featuring the group have been removed by YouTube, with advertising prevented on others for what YouTube say are ‘violations of policy’.

Voice of Wales said it gave a voice to people who were not represented by the mainstream media.

Fronted by Dan Morgan and Stan Robinson, the channel now has more than 5,000 subscribers and has registered more than 350,000 views – many videos have concerned the Asylum Centre.

Guests on the channel have included members of the Proud Boys, outlawed in Canada as terror group, and Pembrokeshire UKIP councillor Paul Dowson.

Prominent Welsh politicians have participated in discussions on the channel – including UKIP’s only member of the Senedd Neil Hamilton and former Conservative election candidate Felix Aubel.

As we previously reported Pembroke Dock councillor, Josh Beynon, said he was subjected to harassment by Voice of Wales after he opposed its supporters’ presence at protests against housing asylum seekers at a former military training base in Pembrokeshire.

This harassment included an allegation that he shared a sexual video of an underage schoolgirl – he says this is false.

Speaking to the BBC, Tia Roach of Stand up to Racism said the messages on the videos were “putting so many people in danger”.

“They spout a lot of ideology around immigrants and refugees and the Muslim community,” she said.

“I know that a lot of impressionable… frustrated people will take that and target all their anger and frustration at these people.”

Freedom of speech is a cornerstone of democracy, but the three main political parties in Wales have voiced concern about the language and ideas shared by Voice of Wales – but not UKIP.

Speaking to The Herald on Thursday (Feb 18) UKIP Cllr Paul Dowson said that he disagreed with the view that the Voice of Wales was racist. He said: “They are just saying what most people in Wales think, but this clashes with the leftist BBC agenda. They’ve done a stitch up job on the VOW just the same as the did with me. They are right leaning, but not racist at all.”

Mother admits to killing seven-year-old son in Haverfordwest

A mother has admitted to the manslaughter of her seven-year-old son at their home in Haverfordwest, citing diminished responsibility.

Papaipit Linse, 43, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Friday (Nov 22), where she denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of her son, Louis Linse. Prosecutor Caroline Rees KC confirmed the manslaughter plea would be accepted, stating it “did not come as a surprise” to the prosecution.

The incident occurred on 10 January when police were called to a property on Upper Market Street. Louis was rushed to Withybush General Hospital but tragically died shortly afterwards.

During the hearing, Linse, who spoke only to confirm her name and enter her pleas, was informed that she would be sentenced on 13 December. Judge Paul Thomas KC described the case as “clearly a very sensitive as well as a very tragic case.”

The court was told that Linse is currently receiving treatment at the Caswell Clinic, a mental health facility in Bridgend. Psychiatric evidence is expected to be presented during the sentencing hearing to provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding the case.

Council warns of icy conditions as temperatures drop

ROAD users in Pembrokeshire are being urged to exercise caution tonight as temperatures are forecast to dip below freezing.

Pembrokeshire County Council has announced that road surface temperatures could reach as low as -2°C, with the possibility of sleet or snow on higher ground. In response, precautionary salting of the county’s primary routes will be carried out this evening and overnight.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Road users are advised to take care if travelling on untreated roads.”

Motorists are reminded to plan ahead and drive carefully, particularly in areas that may not have been treated.

MILFORD HAVEN BUSINESS CIRCLE is calling for stallholders to join the town’s festive Christmas Market, set to bring holiday cheer on Friday, December 6, and Saturday, December 7, 2024.

The market will take place at the Lower Charles Street Car Park, promising a vibrant mix of stalls and attractions. Organizers are seeking a variety of vendors, including those offering gifts, children’s toys and games, food, cakes, flowers, and more.

There’s also an open invitation for someone with small children’s rides to add to the festive fun. A highlight of the event will be the Grinch’s Grotto, offering an entertaining twist to this year’s celebrations.
