Inquest into death of Lily Sullivan opened and adjourned by coroner
THE LIFELESS body of 18-year-old Lily Ann Sullivan was discovered in the Mill Pond, Pembroke, just a week before Christmas.
At an initial hearing at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court, the court was told that on the evening of Thursday, Dec 17, Haines took a lift to Pembroke Dock and went to Out Nightclub where he met Lily Sullivan.
According to the CPS this was the first time they met.
CCTV footage, crown prosecutor Michael Cray said, showed them talking, leaving the club together and walking down a lane.
A short time later, at 4:12am on Friday, December 18, police were called to the mill pond area after receiving reports of a female in the water.
Lisa Jenkins, the coroner officer, said that despite attempts by paramedics to resuscitate her, Lily was pronounced dead at 6.02am.
Lewis Haines, 31, of Flemish Court, Lamphey, has been charged with her murder. Haines has since appeared in court where he was remanded into custody ahead of future hearings.
An inquest into her death was opened at County Hall, Haverfordwest, yesterday (Wednesday, January 12).
Acting senior coroner, Paul Bennett, said “The process by which the (coroner’s) investigation has been opened has been overtaken by events.”
He then adjourned the inquest “pending the outcome of criminal proceedings currently ongoing at Swansea Crown Court”.
After Lily’s death, her family, who are still being supported by specially trained officers, paid tribute to the 18-year-old describing her as “a kind and caring daughter who will be deeply missed by everyone”.
