Disorderly conduct at nightclub results in court fine
A 24-YEAR-OLD Monkton resident, Callum Probert, found himself in legal proceedings following an incident of aggression and abusive behavior directed towards a nightclub security doorman and police officers at Pembroke’s ‘Out’ nightclub. This incident occurred on the night of August 27, leading to Probert’s appearance before the magistrates.
Probert’s unwelcome presence within the nightclub led to a confrontation with the doorman, who encountered difficulties in removing him from the premises around 2:15 am. The Crown Prosecutor, Sian Vaughan, presented a detailed account of the incident during the recent court session in Haverfordwest. She emphasized that Probert had physically assaulted the doorman by headbutting him in the face. Remarkably, the doorman chose not to pursue charges against Probert.
Following this altercation, local law enforcement was summoned to the scene. Upon arrival, it was evident that Probert was intoxicated. Consequently, he was placed under arrest. However, the situation took a more menacing turn when Probert, inebriated, verbally threatened one of the officers, stating, “I’ll f kill you,” and physically lashing out with his leg.
Probert, a resident of Monkton’s Angle Road, subsequently pleaded guilty to the charge of being drunk and disorderly in a public place. His legal representation in court was provided by Mr. David Wheale.
During the court proceedings, Mr. Wheale shed light on Probert’s state that night, attributing his behavior to a belief that his drink had been tampered with. He stressed that such actions were entirely out of character for his client.
Furthermore, Mr. Wheale pointed out that Probert had previously received a 12-month suspended prison sentence in April 2023 for possessing a bladed article in a public place. Nevertheless, he argued against activating this suspended sentence, asserting that the seriousness of the present offense did not warrant custodial punishment.
Mr. Wheale emphasized Probert’s young age, 23, and the need to address the underlying issues contributing to his behavior, underscoring the serious problems he faced.
Taking these mitigating factors into consideration, the magistrates imposed a £40 fine for Probert’s drunken and disorderly conduct. Additionally, he was ordered to pay £180 for breaching his suspended prison sentence, along with £85 in court costs and a £16 surcharge.
