Borderettes bag bonus point win
Whitland 26
Llandaff North 10
THE BORDERETTES continued their good run of form in the Premiership with an excellent bonus point win over Llandaff. The visitors started well and were first on the score sheet with some slick handling through their back line which confused the Whitland defence, allowing Elin Huxtable to cross out wide.
Whitland’s nerves were soon settled as they scored an excellent try after their pack powered their way up field before eventually releasing the ball to the back line. It was the power house centre Abi May Williams who crashed over, with the extras added by Becca Norris. Whitland continued to attack, and some searing breaks by Alice James and debutant Sioned Harries came to nothing. A break out by Llandaff just before half time nearly put them in the lead, but a superb cover tackle by Harries put the winger in to touch on the try line.
The Cardiff girls took the lead just after half time when the Whitland defence were caught napping after a penalty, which saw centre Mared Evans stroll in unopposed. This seemed to galvanise the Whitland pack who stepped up a gear and took charge for the rest of the game. The final quarter of the game was all Whitland, and only a matter of time before the points started coming. Abi May powered over for her second which was again converted by Norris, followed by live wire hooker Delyth Davies smashing over wide out.
Tempers began to flair in the last 10 minutes but it was Whitland who kept their heads. After a series of penalties in the Llandaff 22 it was the ever alert Harries who took a quick tap and go, and crossed for the bonus point try. The extras were added by Rachel Norris. This result left Whitland at the top of the Division with three bonus point wins. The next game is away to Pontyclun.

Promotion, relegation and everything in between.
As we come to the end of the 2023-2024 season it’s time to look at the winners and losers so to speak as most promotion and relegation battles are now all sewn up.
We begin at the very top where Goodwick United have blown away the first division to become deserved champions elect. At the opposite end of the table Fishguard Sports struggled all season and we comfortably relegated, going down with them are Neyland who’s relegation was confirmed a few weeks ago. Neither team were cut adrift and battled right until the end which is credit to both outfits, sometimes relegation can act as a spring broad and both clubs will be hoping this is the case.
Monkton Swifts reserves were the outstanding team in the second division and were a cut above the rest on their journey to becoming league champions on 56 points with an impressive plus 61 goal difference. As Monkton can’t be promoted due to their first team being in the first division it allowed both Herbrandston and St Ishmaels to be promoted. Herbrandston finished in third on 40 points, whilst the Mice just beat them to second place ending up on 42 points. Both clubs will now use the summer to prepare for the step up that awaits.
At the opposite end of the division, Cosheston never really got going and after their points deduction ended on a lowly 6 points which is never going to be enough to avoid relegation. The second relegation place was much closer with St Clears, Carew reserves and Broad Haven all being in a dog fight for the majority of the season. Broad Haven showed good fight and character which steered them clear of trouble while Carew found form at a key time, which means St Clears will play their football in the third division next season.
