Annual 80s themed charity 5km Night Run returns to Milford Waterfront in support of RNLI
FOLLOWING last year’s spectacular event, the Waterfront Community Runners are excited to announce the highly anticipated return of their 5K Charity Night Run on Milford Waterfront on Saturday 9 November 2024, in support of the RNLI.
This year’s run promises an unforgettable evening of fun, community spirit, and nostalgia, bringing back the best of the 80s to Milford Haven.
The evening’s festivities kick off at 6pm with an array of activities and entertainment creating an electric atmosphere from start to finish. Runners and supporters alike can look forward to live performances by the Samba DOC Band, a raffle stall with exciting prizes, and a selection of hot drinks and homemade cakes. The 80s-themed event encourages all participants to dress in neon, sparkles, or fancy dress, and get ready to run, dance, and celebrate for an important cause.
In line with the event’s night run theme, all participants are required to bring a head or chest torch to light their path along the route. Registration is open on the night from 4pm to 5:30pm with only 250 spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. To save time, runners can download the registration form in advance; however, early form submission does not guarantee entry. Due to safety concerns, dogs and pushchairs are not permitted, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
The registration form can be downloaded here. This event is a “fun run” and will not feature official timing, allowing participants to fully enjoy the unique atmosphere. Guests are encouraged to bring cash for on-site donations to the RNLI, as well as to enjoy treats and warm drinks at the event stalls.
Volunteers from Milford Haven’s Lifeboat Station are preparing to participate in the upcoming event, proudly wearing their helmets, life jackets and high-visibility gear. Their involvement not only demonstrates their dedication to the local community but also emphasises the crucial role the RNLI plays in ensuring safety at sea, all while raising funds for the organisation’s essential operations.

Exciting new addition for Welsh Wildlife Centre approved
PLANS for a new play area at the Welsh Wildlife Centre near Cardigan have been approved by Pembrokeshire County Council.
The Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales sought permission for a children’s play area comprising timber play equipment and associated ground works at the Welsh Wildlife Centre, Cilgerran.
The Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales (WTSWW) is the fourth largest Wildlife Trust in the UK, managing 110 nature reserves, including Skomer and Skokholm island.
The Welsh Wildlife Centre, within the Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve, provides a range of facilities including a visitor centre with shop and display rooms, café and WTSWW offices, together with a visitor car park, play area, walking trails, bird hides and a cottage for self-catering guests.
The site of the proposed play area is located on an informal grassland meadow recreation area to the northwest of the visitor centre, using Robinia hardwood logs and sawn timber, ropes and hand-woven nets manufactured using steel reinforced polypropylene, with the appearance of traditional hemp cordage, the applicants say.
A supporting statement accompanying the application said the design proposal, produced by Earth Wrights Ltd, is about “increasing play value and creating a place inclusive for everyone”.
It added: “The additional visitors and users of the play equipment would generate minimal and localised noise impacts, confined to the Welsh Wildlife Centre complex itself, with no impacts upon residential properties or other sensitive receptors, given the extensive separation distances to neighbouring development.”
Local community council Cilgerran has raised no objection to the scheme.
Recommending approval, an officer report said the scheme would also introduce four bird boxes within the woodland to the west of the site and replace the existing bug hotel located near the visitor centre, with a larger, upgraded model.
The proposals were conditionally approved by planners.

Tenby Imperial Hotel renovation plans get green light
THE FIRST stage of plans to renovate an iconic historic Pembrokeshire seafront hotel has been given the go-ahead by national park planners.
Tenby’s Imperial Hotel, which had an asking price of £2.5million, was sold earlier this year by specialist hotel property adviser, Christie & Co, to Crest Hotels.
Crest Hotels has eight other ‘unique’ hotels in the UK, including the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells and The Feathers Hotel in Ludlow.
The four-storey Grade-II-listed Imperial Hotel has been an hotel for nearly 120 years, opening in 1905.
The 45-bedroom hotel is sited in the town’s conservation area and next to the historic town walls, boasting panoramic sea views over Tenby’s South Beach and across to Caldey Island.
A listed building application before Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, by Crest Hotels, – the first of several phases proposed – sought permission for bedroom alterations and refurbishments including the bar/lounge area.
A supporting statement, through agent AT Architects said: “This proposal is phase one with three further potential phases of refurbishment and development.”
It added: “Phase one does not include alterations to the existing building exterior. Phase one consists of the refurbishment of 35 existing bedrooms and ensuites. There will be the creation of two new bedrooms and ensuites formed by splitting two of the existing bedrooms. These works are to take place over ground, first, second, third and fourth floors of the hotel.
“To the ground floor the existing bar / lounge area is proposed to be opened to the enclosed veranda area and then top the main staircase and entrance foyer. The central pier will be removed, and this area is to undergo a total refurbishment. The ground floor room currently an office and reception foyer are to have the existing hallway reinstated and then opened up between the two rooms to form a new kitchen facility to serve the enhanced food and beverage offering.”
The proposals were supported by Tenby Town Council, but Tenby Civic Society objected due to the potential loss of internal fixtures.
An officer report, recommending approval, said: “The proposed scheme is considered in keeping with the character of the listed building, and its setting in terms of design and form. As such, the application can be supported subject to conditions.”
Later stages proposed, still before national park planners, include external alterations and extra facilities such as a spa and cinema room.
The listed building consent for the first phase was conditionally approved by park planners.
