Murco engineers make new start

InSite Technical Services: Providing employment opportunities for
Murco taskforce
SIX engineers at the Murco oil refinery in Milford Haven, who lost their jobs following its closure last year, have set up a new business in Pembrokeshire with help from the Welsh Government.
Operating out of Pembroke Dock in the Haven Waterway Enterprise Zone, InSite Technical Services have six directors who boast more than 100 years engineering and project management experience in the process industry.
They will operate in three business areas, offering project design and engineering, operational services and technical consultancy. The company also want to find new opportunities for the wealth of technically skilled people that are now in the area after forty years of refining in Milford Haven.
InSite Technical Services Managing Director Jean Martin said: “The closure of the oil refinery in Milford Haven was a devastating blow for the area, with so many people employed there and other jobs associated with the supply chain. But with so many highly-skilled, experienced and talented people working at the refinery and the number of energy industry companies in Pembrokeshire we saw an opportunity to start something new.
With advice and support from the Welsh Government on starting up a new company, from Murco who provided office equipment and Pembrokeshire Council providing the office space we’ve been able to get off the ground quickly. Hopefully we can establish ourselves and grow in Pembrokeshire to ensure there continue to be engineering career opportunities for young people here.”
Economy Minister, Edwina Hart said: “I am very pleased to hear about the establishment of InSite Technical Services and the support they received from the Murco Taskforce. The effects of the Murco closure were felt throughout Pembrokeshire and beyond, so it is encouraging to see new opportunities being created locally. The Murco Taskforce’s work didn’t stop following the closure of the refinery. Since the closure was announced, 41% of the Murco employees have found new work and half of them within Pembrokeshire. The Taskforce and the Welsh Government will continue to do all they can to support those affected by the closure.”

A total of £597 was raised on the night, which will be shared equally between the two charities.
The Service thanked the congregation at Ebeneser Baptist Chapel for hosting the event, as well as everyone who gave their time, support and generosity to make the evening such a success.

3 Amigos toy bike run under way across Pembrokeshire
Castle Inn fun runners back festive charity event
THE ANNUAL 3 Amigos Christmas toy bike run is under way this afternoon (Saturday), with hundreds of motorcyclists setting off from Pembroke to raise funds for children’s services.
Riders gathered at The Commons car park in Pembroke from around midday before departing shortly after 1:00pm. The festive convoy is travelling along its traditional route, taking in Pembroke Dock and continuing through parts of the county including Neyland, Milford Haven and Haverfordwest.

The event is organised by the 3 Amigos and Dollies Motorcycle Group and has become a much-anticipated Christmas tradition in west Wales, with toys and donations collected for children receiving care within the Hywel Dda University Health Board area.
Also supporting the event are fun runners from the Castle Inn in Pembroke, who have been fundraising in aid of the 3 Amigos. The group are pictured alongside participants from today’s run.
The 3 Amigos have been raising funds for children’s wards and health charities for more than twenty-five years, with their Easter and Christmas events continuing to make a positive difference to young patients and their families.
Organisers have thanked the public for their support and asked road users to be mindful of the large convoy as it passes through towns and villages this afternoon.
