Pembrokeshire extends support to the people of Paris

parisPEMBROKESHIRE’S local government organisations will be extending support to the people of France and residents of Paris following Friday night’s terrorist attacks which left 129 people dead and more than 350 injured.

From tomorrow, County Hall in Haverfordwest will be flying the flags at half mast. They will remain at half-mast it is understood, whilst France is in a period of national mourning.

Ian Westley, the new chief executive of Pembrokeshire County Council, has said he will be messaging his counterpart at the Counseil de Paris to offer condolences and words of support.

In Milford Haven, town mayor Cllr Stephen Joseph has said that he has opened a book of condolences at the town hall.

Cllr Joseph also confirmed that the Union Flag will also by flying at half mast at Milford Haven Town Hall from tomorrow.

Milford Haven is twinned with Romily-Sur-Seine, near Paris.

Cllr Joseph told The Herald: “I hope that as many people as possible come to sign the book and offer their prayer for the people of Paris.”

He added: “I will also be contacting the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, and the mayor of Romily-Sur-Seine, to offer words of support and solidarity on behalf of the people of Milford Haven.”

First Minister Carwyn Jones has said people should be prepared for the possibility there could be Welsh casualties as a result of the terror attacks in Paris.

The book of condolences will be available to sign from 10am on Monday at Milford Haven Town Hall.

Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood has sent condolences to those affected by last night’s horrific violent attacks in Paris, and called for calm in the city and across the world in the face of tragic and dreadful events.

She said that it was a time for solidarity and that communities across the world should stand united to defeat those who wish to incite fear and terror.

“In the light of these attacks on people in Paris, we stand united with all those people in the communities that have been affected by these horrific acts of violence.”

Council warns of icy conditions as temperatures drop

ROAD users in Pembrokeshire are being urged to exercise caution tonight as temperatures are forecast to dip below freezing.

Pembrokeshire County Council has announced that road surface temperatures could reach as low as -2°C, with the possibility of sleet or snow on higher ground. In response, precautionary salting of the county’s primary routes will be carried out this evening and overnight.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Road users are advised to take care if travelling on untreated roads.”

Motorists are reminded to plan ahead and drive carefully, particularly in areas that may not have been treated.

Stallholders wanted for Milford Haven Christmas Market

MILFORD HAVEN BUSINESS CIRCLE is calling for stallholders to join the town’s festive Christmas Market, set to bring holiday cheer on Friday, December 6, and Saturday, December 7, 2024.

The market will take place at the Lower Charles Street Car Park, promising a vibrant mix of stalls and attractions. Organizers are seeking a variety of vendors, including those offering gifts, children’s toys and games, food, cakes, flowers, and more.

There’s also an open invitation for someone with small children’s rides to add to the festive fun. A highlight of the event will be the Grinch’s Grotto, offering an entertaining twist to this year’s celebrations.
