MP visits construction company following increase of first-time buyers
FOLLOWING positive news regarding the increase in first-time buyers and dwelings being built, local MP Stephen Crabb recently met with a local award-winning construction company.
Figures produced by Halifax Bank show that the number of first-time home owners has reached a 10-year high. The positive news regarding housing continues as during the April to June 2017 quarter, a total of 1,853 new dwellings were started in Wales. This is an increase of over a third (37%) on the same quarter last year and the highest number recorded in any April to June quarter since 2008-09, as reported by the Welsh Government.
Directly involved in producing those extra dwellings are companies like L Greggain and Co Ltd. Established in 1962 by the late Len Greggain, the company have established itself as one of the leading family run construction companies in Pembrokeshire. Now headed by father and son duo, John and John Greggain, the company pride themselves on the quality and care of work undertaken, building a reputation second to none.
This has been recognised by the NHBC, with Site Manager Quality Awards, Seal of Excellence Awards, Regional Award(Wales) and the crowning glory of the NHBC awards, The Supreme Award 2016 (Best Site Manager in the UK, small builder category), as well as Local Authority Building Excellence Awards.
Stephen Crabb MP said: “I was delighted to hear that a local family business had been recognised nationally for their amazing construction work.
“There is a genuine demand for quality, affordable first time homes across the country and thanks to companies such as L Greggain and Co, we are tackling the demand head on.
“Speaking to John and John, it is clear that they take the upmost of pride in their work, and have a good understanding of the local housing needs of Pembrokeshire. I wish them continued success as we collectively tackle the housing shortage.”

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
