Simon Hart becomes first MP to reach Parkrun 100 milestone
SIMON HART has become the first MP in the UK to complete 100 Parkruns – at the local five km fun run that takes place in Amroth every Saturday.
Mr Hart celebrated with his fellow 100-club member and Tavernspite School headteacher Kevin Phelps. Also pictured is Colby Parkrun director Mary Anthony who set up the event just over two years ago.
“Rather by accident I have become a Parkrun regular,” said Mr Hart whose “personal best” time stands at 23.01.
“I seem to be going backwards just recently in my finishing time which is frustrating but I will keep plugging away – I blame the election for ruining my routine!”
Parkrun was set up 13 years ago in London and is a free, weekly, timed run that has become a worldwide phenomenon.
“What I really love about the event is the social element – the coffee and catch-up with friends afterwards is as important as the running,” added Mr Hart.
Runners take it in turns to volunteer to help keep the event free to enter and runners get a free tee shirt when they reach their 50 or 100 run milestone.
Colby Parkrun takes place around the National Trust gardens at 9am every Saturday and had a record attendance of 278 runners in April this year.
“A new parkrun has just started in Haverfordwest and I would encourage everyone to give it a go,” added Mr Hart. “There is a tail walker who makes sure everyone gets round safely and it really doesn’t matter if you complete it in 16 minutes and 23 seconds which is the Colby record or over an hour – everyone is welcome.”

Mother admits to killing seven-year-old son in Haverfordwest
A mother has admitted to the manslaughter of her seven-year-old son at their home in Haverfordwest, citing diminished responsibility.
Papaipit Linse, 43, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Friday (Nov 22), where she denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of her son, Louis Linse. Prosecutor Caroline Rees KC confirmed the manslaughter plea would be accepted, stating it “did not come as a surprise” to the prosecution.
The incident occurred on 10 January when police were called to a property on Upper Market Street. Louis was rushed to Withybush General Hospital but tragically died shortly afterwards.
During the hearing, Linse, who spoke only to confirm her name and enter her pleas, was informed that she would be sentenced on 13 December. Judge Paul Thomas KC described the case as “clearly a very sensitive as well as a very tragic case.”
The court was told that Linse is currently receiving treatment at the Caswell Clinic, a mental health facility in Bridgend. Psychiatric evidence is expected to be presented during the sentencing hearing to provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding the case.
