Police worry ‘Lockdown fatigue’ is the cause for those flouting essential travel regulations
WELSH POLICE forces are pleading with everyone to follow the guidelines.
Police forces worry that people are getting ‘lockdown fatigue’ and are urging the public to follow the guidelines.
Since the lockdown was introduced in March, police forces throughout Wales have handed out hundreds of penalty notices to those breaking the guidelines.
Dyfed Powys Police have issued over 600 fixed penalty notices, Inspector Andrew Williams said “That is to do mainly with the geography of our force, with the nice weather and the bank holiday weekends, we did see an influx of people travelling to our force area from London, Essex, Bristol, other parts of Wales.
“We’ve been engaging with those people – the vast majority of people have listened to our advice to go home and listen to the restrictions, but in a lot of cases we have had to use our enforcement powers.”
Officers from South Wales Police say they have been called to numerous family gatherings, house parties and barbeques.
He added “We’ve seen quite an influx of people trying to come into Pembrokeshire over the last few weeks, particularly over the last Easter bank holiday weekend.
“We predict the same for the next bank holiday weekend which is why we will be increasing resourcing, increasing the patrols force-wide really, from the top of Powys down to Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire itself.”
Police forces from the South West have taken to Twitter to tell of some of the reasons they have been called out since the regulations came into force. These include groups flocking to open spaces to sunbathe; play football and enjoy picnics, House parties and a woman who drove from Dorset to Cardiff to buy a new car, before breaking down on Newport Road.

Mother admits to killing seven-year-old son in Haverfordwest
A mother has admitted to the manslaughter of her seven-year-old son at their home in Haverfordwest, citing diminished responsibility.
Papaipit Linse, 43, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Friday (Nov 22), where she denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of her son, Louis Linse. Prosecutor Caroline Rees KC confirmed the manslaughter plea would be accepted, stating it “did not come as a surprise” to the prosecution.
The incident occurred on 10 January when police were called to a property on Upper Market Street. Louis was rushed to Withybush General Hospital but tragically died shortly afterwards.
During the hearing, Linse, who spoke only to confirm her name and enter her pleas, was informed that she would be sentenced on 13 December. Judge Paul Thomas KC described the case as “clearly a very sensitive as well as a very tragic case.”
The court was told that Linse is currently receiving treatment at the Caswell Clinic, a mental health facility in Bridgend. Psychiatric evidence is expected to be presented during the sentencing hearing to provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding the case.
