Fishguard see off Milford after tight battle

FISHGUARD kept themselves in contention at the top end of WRU Plate Group H1 on Saturday (Oct 16) as they beat Milford Haven 17-5 at The Moor.
James Williams had given the Mariners the lead in the first half as he touched down but the conversion was missed.
Shortly before the break the visitors were reduced to 14 men after a yellow card, giving the Seagulls a chance to get back into it.
However, Milford won the resulting lineout as they looked to keep hold of their lead.
They could not keep them out for much longer though as Robbie Jones raced away down the left to score the try.
The conversion was missed and the score remained at 5-5 when the half time whistle was blown.
James Griffiths scored a penalty early in the second half to put the home side ahead and he added three more penalties as the Seagulls continued to increase their lead.
Milford were unable to get back into the game as Fishguard saw the game out for their third win of the group stage.
The win moves them on to fifteen points, just four points behind group leaders Aberystwyth.
On Saturday, October 23, Fishguard travel to Pembroke while Aber visit Whitland.
The other game in the group sees Crymych visiting Tenby.

However, Pennar quickly regained the lead on the stroke of halftime when Cameron Brunton’s cross was met by Ben Adams, whose volley deflected off Dickson and into the net.

Seagulls soar as Whitland struggle in tough rematch

Fishguard & Goodwick 45 – Whitland 14
FISHGUARD & GOODWICK delivered a commanding performance to secure a 45-14 victory over Whitland in a highly anticipated rematch at The Moor. Earlier in the season, Whitland edged a narrow 13-10 win at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn, but this time, the Seagulls took full control from the outset.
The home side dominated proceedings early on, heading into halftime with a 19-0 lead. Despite a spirited effort from Whitland in the second half, Fishguard remained in the driving seat throughout.
Fast start sets the tone
Fishguard’s forwards laid the foundation for their success, with young talents Rhys and Will Lewis, Bryn Thomas, Cai Llewellyn, and Will Delaney stepping up alongside captain Sion Colella and seasoned front-rowers Iwan McVeigh and Liam Wilkes. Their dominance in the set-piece provided half-backs Dan Evans and Jake Jenkins the perfect platform to unleash their backline.
Hooker Liam Wilkes opened the scoring before winger Rhys Evans and full-back Mark Jones crossed for further tries. Jones also added two conversions, giving the Seagulls a comfortable cushion at the break.
Whitland fight back but fall short
Minutes into the second half, veteran replacement Gavin Walsh secured the bonus-point try, again converted by Jones. Whitland, however, refused to roll over. Captain Dan Bennett led from the front, with Rhys Nicholas, Iestyn Comey, and the Hughes brothers—Will and Tom—putting in strong shifts. In the backs, Gareth Davies and Oli Bujega were constant threats, and their persistence paid off as Will Hughes and pacy winger Morgan Lewis touched down for well-earned tries, both converted by replacement full-back Jonathan Thomas.
Seagulls finish in style
Despite Whitland’s fightback, Fishguard reasserted control. Centre Nial Keane powered over for a try under the posts before Mike Jenkins capped off a fine individual performance with a final score, sealing an emphatic victory for the Seagulls.
