Healthier lifestyles and raising funds for charity
STAFF, consultants and patients at BMI Werndale Hospital in Bancyfelin have been making some healthy lifestyle choices and raising funds for charity as part of the hospital’s drive to encourage people to lead healthier lives.
A healthy bake sale, raffle and best practice healthy summer BBQ was held at the hospital which raised £470 for Cancer Research UK. It formed part of the hospital’s Big Health Pledge which calls on people to make small changes that will make a big difference to their health and wellbeing. It targets the UK’s five biggest preventable killers – heart disease, stroke, cancer, lung disease and liver disease – offering help and advice on steps you can take to live a healthier life. As part of the Big Health Pledge, a healthy eating and recipe cook book has also been created to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK. BMI Werndale Hospital’s Support Services Manager, Richard Davies, has created a tasty recipe which is featured in the book that is on sale for £3.00 at the hospital as well as Cancer Research UK shops throughout the UK. BMI Werndale Hospital Executive Director, Jacky Jones said: “The response to this health drive and fundraising event for Cancer Research has been great. The aim is to show that looking after your health can be fun. “The Big Health Pledge will hopefully get people thinking about how they could eat healthier, be more active, quit smoking, drink less alcohol and be more health aware – all steps to a healthier, happier life.” Former international footballer Sir Geoff Hurst has also given his support to the health campaign. Sir Geoff said ‘making a pledge’ is a great way to start any new health regime as it helps people concentrate on their individual goals. The Big Health Pledge, organised by private healthcare provider BMI Healthcare, is proving to be a huge success in encouraging people to lead healthier lives. Around 2,500 people have ‘made the pledge’ and benefitted from help and advice on how to live a healthier life. This year’s service supported two important charities — the Fire Fighters Charity and Cancer Research Wales — with all proceeds going directly towards their ongoing work.
A total of £597 was raised on the night, which will be shared equally between the two charities.
The Service thanked the congregation at Ebeneser Baptist Chapel for hosting the event, as well as everyone who gave their time, support and generosity to make the evening such a success.

3 Amigos toy bike run under way across Pembrokeshire
Castle Inn fun runners back festive charity event
THE ANNUAL 3 Amigos Christmas toy bike run is under way this afternoon (Saturday), with hundreds of motorcyclists setting off from Pembroke to raise funds for children’s services.
Riders gathered at The Commons car park in Pembroke from around midday before departing shortly after 1:00pm. The festive convoy is travelling along its traditional route, taking in Pembroke Dock and continuing through parts of the county including Neyland, Milford Haven and Haverfordwest.

The event is organised by the 3 Amigos and Dollies Motorcycle Group and has become a much-anticipated Christmas tradition in west Wales, with toys and donations collected for children receiving care within the Hywel Dda University Health Board area.
Also supporting the event are fun runners from the Castle Inn in Pembroke, who have been fundraising in aid of the 3 Amigos. The group are pictured alongside participants from today’s run.
The 3 Amigos have been raising funds for children’s wards and health charities for more than twenty-five years, with their Easter and Christmas events continuing to make a positive difference to young patients and their families.
Organisers have thanked the public for their support and asked road users to be mindful of the large convoy as it passes through towns and villages this afternoon.
