Hinkley Point C workers injured in early morning double-decker bus crash
A DOUBLE-DECKER bus carrying Hinkley Point workers overturned early this morning (Jan 17) leaving many injured.
Emergency services are treating the injured and trying to release some workers who are trapped on the bus.
Few details have emerged so far about the crash which occurred at around 6am this morning. It is rumoured around 80 workers were on the bus travelling to their next shift.
There are many people working on Hinkley from the Pembrokeshire area.
A source told The Pembrokeshire Herald: “The bus is understood to have swerved to avoid a motorbike in icy conditions.
“The air ambulance is on site and medics have set up a triage scene at the site.”
A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police said: “A significant number of police, fire and ambulance units are on the scene and a major incident has been declared.”
An EDF statement confirmed: “A bus carrying members of the Hinkley Point C workforce has been involved in a traffic incident on the A39 in Bridgwater.
“Emergency services are on the scene and travel to and from the site has been suspended.”
Inspector Rebecca Wells from Somerset police said in a press conference at midday: “We were called to the A39 in Bridgewater following a report of a road related incident involving a double decker bus and a motor cyclist.
“The bus was carrying 70 Hinkley Point C workers when it overturned.
“The incident was initially declared as a major incident, but this has since been stood down.
“There have been no fatalities at this time.
“54 patients were triaged at the scene.
“26 patients are being treated as walking wounded.”
The police could not yet confirm information from those close to the incident that three people were seriously injured.
Residents were asked to avoid the area, and drivers are asked by the police to take extra care due to the icy road conditions and excess water.

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
