Dock man remanded into custody for child grooming and firearms offences

A WELL known outdoor activities instructor working with local children – has been remanded into custody after being charged with inciting sexual activity with a child, and child grooming.
Sean Golder, 54, of The Pound, Pembroke Dock appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Monday (Mar 13) to confirm his name and address, but no pleas were entered.
The alleged offences took place in the Carmarthen area, and the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons is a boy, aged 14.
The charge reads: “Between Tuesday 7th March 2023 and Friday 10th March 2023 at Carmarthen [Sean Golder] intentionally arranged or facilitated an act which [he] intended to do in any part of the world, namely Carmarthenshire, which would involve the commission of an offence under section 9 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 of sexual activity with a child involving penetration.”
Golder, a veteran of 22 years’ service in the Royal Fusiliers, is also charged with the possession of an imitation fire arm which led two people – a man and a woman – to believe that unlawful violence would be used against them.
The alleged contraventions of Schedule 6 to the Firearms Act 1968 took place on March 10 in Llanelli.
Golder’s solicitor, Andrew Isaac of Gomer Williams argued the case for bail – but Mr Scott Tuppen, for the CPS, argued that the defendant should be remanded into custody due to the serious nature of the offences. This is something that the three magistrates agreed with; and the defendant was remanded into custody.
Golder will now be brought before Swansea Crown Court on April 14 where pleas will be entered.

Henri Cynwyl claims podium in Wigan rally

Cardigan teenager secures second place in F1000 Junior battle
CARDIGAN rally talent Henri Cynwyl secured a well-earned second place at the Compbrake Motorsport Stages in Wigan over the weekend, in a tightly fought contest between the top three F1000 Junior drivers.
The 16-year-old Pembrokeshire College student, competing with co-driver Geraint Evans from north Wales, took to the track in his Citroën C1 against 12 other juniors under bright northern skies. Despite the circuit’s go-kart-style layout not playing to the car’s strengths, Henri put in a strong and consistent performance across the 12 two-mile stages.
“It was more of a go-kart track, which didn’t really suit the car that much,” said Henri. “But it was great to get seat time and earn more points for the overall British Championship. Any experience behind the wheel is invaluable, and I’m really grateful to my sponsors for making it possible.”
Henri, who works as an apprentice at DJ Hoyland Electricians in Cardigan, is part of the Teifi Valley Motor Club and currently leads the F1000 Junior Championship standings. With six rounds remaining—including a double-header in Scotland this July—the championship remains wide open, with drop scores and new venues adding to the challenge.
His mother, Anwen, praised the spirit of the event: “He drove well all day, and his times were consistent throughout. The young drivers all support each other—it’s like one big family. The parents all pitch in with food and drink, offering advice and encouragement. There aren’t many clubs or sports where you see that kind of camaraderie and sportsmanship. We’re lucky to be part of the F1000 community.”
As the season continues, all eyes will be on Henri to see if he can hold his lead and take the title in what promises to be a thrilling finish.

Lifeboat crew welcomed with bacon rolls after saving sailor off Grassholm

Angle crew rescue exhausted sailor in early hours
ANGLE RNLI lifeboat crew were paged in the early hours of Wednesday morning (May 22) to assist a lone sailor aboard a 25ft yacht that had suffered engine failure south of Grassholm Island.
The alarm was raised at 3:23am after the yacht, which had been drifting for hours without power, became a concern due to the sailor’s increasing exhaustion. The all-weather lifeboat launched swiftly and reached the casualty vessel approximately 35 minutes later.

After assessing the situation, the crew deemed the safest option was to establish a tow. A line was passed and the vessel was taken under tow towards Milford Haven — a journey which took around three hours.
At the entrance to Milford Marina, the crew established an alongside tow to guide the yacht safely through the lock. The vessel was brought alongside without incident, and the sailor was left safe and well.
The crew returned to Angle station, where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service again by 8:45am.
In a much-appreciated gesture, staff at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Milford Haven were waiting with hot bacon rolls for the tired crew — a small but welcome reward after a long and challenging rescue.

Cross-party and local support
Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens, who chairs the Transition Board, said: “We promised to stand by the steelworkers, their families and the businesses of Port Talbot. This £21.2 million investment is a further step in delivering on that promise. The town’s future—through the Celtic Freeport, offshore wind and green steel—is full of potential.”
Rebecca Evans MS, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, added:
“This investment complements the Swansea Bay City Deal and opens up high-value jobs, especially in renewable energy and manufacturing.”
Neath Port Talbot Council Leader, Cllr Steve Hunt, welcomed the funding:
“It is vital we help local people and businesses seize the opportunities decarbonisation brings. These projects support that goal while driving growth and future skills.”
