Llangwm: Outcry as children’s play park damaged by fire
A CHILDREN’S play park in Llangwm, currently undergoing an upgrade in memory of a young local child who passed away at the age of five, has been severely damaged by fire.
The incident occurred earlier this week, leaving the community in shock and disappointment.
Llangwm county councillor, Michael John, expressed his dismay at the situation, stating, “It’s very disappointing to see an area like this, which has been enhanced through public funding, being damaged in such a dreadful way.” The park, known as Llangwm Play Park, is being developed by Tirion’s Rainbow, a community group established in memory of Tirion Preddy, who tragically lost her battle with a brain tumor in 2017.
Tirion’s Rainbow aims to create a natural and inclusive space where children of all ages and abilities can come together and enjoy themselves. The first phase of the project was successfully completed last year, and the group is currently engaged in fundraising efforts to support the second phase.
Councillor John explained the significance of the upgrades, stating, “A lot of new equipment has been installed in the park, the ground has been resurfaced, and much of the existing equipment is being improved so that children can have a pleasurable experience when they visit the park.” He expressed deep sadness at the unfortunate incident, lamenting the damage inflicted upon the village’s cherished asset.
Following the fire, PCSO Adam Thomas and Laura Galdo-Morgan of the Arson Reduction Team joined Councillor Michael John in conducting a joint patrol of the area. The authorities are actively investigating the incident to determine the cause of the fire and hold those responsible accountable.
The local community, devastated by the damage caused to the park, has rallied together in support of Tirion’s Rainbow. Messages of solidarity and offers of assistance have poured in, demonstrating the resilience and determination of the Llangwm residents to restore their beloved play park.
As the community comes to terms with the setback, efforts to raise funds for the park’s restoration are gaining momentum. The spirit of Tirion, the young child whose memory the park honors, continues to inspire and unite the community in their shared goal of providing a safe and joyful space for children to play and create cherished memories.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding community spaces and the need for vigilance in preventing such acts of vandalism. Local authorities and residents are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
Despite this setback, the community’s determination to preserve and enhance the play park remains unwavering.

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
