Motorist admits being ‘silly and stupid’ after drink-driving
A NARBERTH motorist has admitted being ‘silly and stupid’ after driving his Vauxhall Astra through the town centre despite being over the legal drink-drive limit.
Police officers became aware of the vehicle driven by Jason Hart, 34, on the evening of January 8, as a result of the manner in which it was being driven.
“The officers saw it overtake another vehicle at speed that was turning right,” Crown Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told Haverfordwest magistrates this week.
“They followed the defendant’s vehicle and, upon discovering that it had no insurance, the blue lights were activated. But the driver failed to stop despite there being numerous opportunities.”
Officers eventually apprehended the defendant at his home address. He was taken to a police custody suite where subsequent breathalyser tests confirmed he had 67 mcg of alcohol in his system. The prescribed legal limit is 35.
Jason Hart, of Maes yr Odyn, Narberth, pleaded guilty to charges of drink-driving, driving without third party insurance and of failing to stop when requested to do so by officers.
He was unrepresented when he stood in the dock.
“It was silly and stupid,” he said. “I just couldn’t afford the insurance but I shouldn’t have driven the car, so now I have to take the punishment.”
Hart was disqualified from driving for 19 months. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £48 surcharge. His licence was endorsed.
