Kayaker found body ‘floating in the Haven’ near Cosheston

Cordoned off: The quayside at Neyland Marina.
THERE was a multi agency response on Sunday afternoon (Sept 28) involving Police, Lifeboats and HM Coastguard after the body of a male was found in the Milford Haven waterway, up river of the Cleddau bridge near Cosheston.
A witness said: “At around midday, a boat was flagged over by a kayaker who discovered the body floating about a quater of a mile up river, opposite the Warrior Way car park, near Cosheston.”
Six police vehicles, and the Angle Lifeboat were at Neyland Marina, where part of the quayside has been cordoned off. A police RIB, and a Milford Haven Port Authority launch were also involved in the operation.
Two witnesses at the scene who say they have spoken to the rescue services have said that the identity of the individual is known, although the body has not, at this stage, been formally identified.

Police response: Several officers were at Neyland Marina
Emergency services met the Lifeboat carrying the body at Neyland Marina.
It is understood that at this time of writing this report, (1430 HRS, Sept 28) the body was still aboard the lifeboat and was expected to be taken from the scene by private ambulance.
It is not yet known how long the individual had been in the water, or the cause of death.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson told The Herald that the death was being treated as “unexplained” and inquiries were ongoing.
The spokesperson said: “We had a 999 call from a yacht saying a kayaker had come across something and was asking for assistance.”
“The Milford Haven Port Authority vessel was the first on the scene to assess the response. The Dyfed-Powys Police RIB was just putting in the water at Neyland, so we tasked them to go along as well.”

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
