Tenby responds to back-to-back emergencies in challenging conditions
THE Tenby RNLI crew were called into action for two back-to-back rescue operations in challenging conditions off the coast of Pembrokeshire on Saturday (Aug 25).
The first call came at 3:20pm when Milford Haven Coastguard requested the launch of Tenby’s all-weather lifeboat. Multiple reports had been received about an inflatable dinghy being blown out to sea from Broad Haven South beach, raising immediate concerns about potential occupants in danger.
Despite choppy seas, the crew quickly launched the lifeboat and raced to the last known location of the drifting dinghy. Upon arrival, with no sign of the dinghy in sight, the Coastguard coordinated a search pattern for the lifeboat to follow. After approximately 40 minutes of searching, relief came when the dinghy’s owner confirmed it had been empty when it was blown away. Around the same time, a local fishing boat reported finding the errant inflatable a few miles away. The lifeboat was stood down and returned to the station.
However, as the lifeboat was being hauled back onto the slipway, the crew received another urgent call. This time, the Coastguard requested an immediate relaunch to assist in a rescue effort after a person had reportedly fallen from cliffs east of Worms Head, near Rhossili—17 miles away from Tenby.
With the lifeboat rapidly back in the water, the crew sped towards the incident. Multiple Coastguard rescue teams, the Coastguard rescue helicopter 187, and the Welsh Ambulance Service were also dispatched to the scene. The lifeboat had nearly reached the cliffs, with casualty care-trained crew members ready to go ashore, when word came through that the rescue helicopter had arrived. The helicopter crew, working with ambulance personnel, managed to stabilize and airlift the casualty to safety.
With the situation under control, the lifeboat was stood down once more, returning to the station at 6:45pm, bringing an exhausting but successful day to a close.
The Tenby RNLI crew’s swift and professional response to both incidents underscores their dedication and the critical role they play in safeguarding the local community and those who find themselves in peril on the sea.

Mother admits to killing seven-year-old son in Haverfordwest
A mother has admitted to the manslaughter of her seven-year-old son at their home in Haverfordwest, citing diminished responsibility.
Papaipit Linse, 43, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Friday (Nov 22), where she denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of her son, Louis Linse. Prosecutor Caroline Rees KC confirmed the manslaughter plea would be accepted, stating it “did not come as a surprise” to the prosecution.
The incident occurred on 10 January when police were called to a property on Upper Market Street. Louis was rushed to Withybush General Hospital but tragically died shortly afterwards.
During the hearing, Linse, who spoke only to confirm her name and enter her pleas, was informed that she would be sentenced on 13 December. Judge Paul Thomas KC described the case as “clearly a very sensitive as well as a very tragic case.”
The court was told that Linse is currently receiving treatment at the Caswell Clinic, a mental health facility in Bridgend. Psychiatric evidence is expected to be presented during the sentencing hearing to provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding the case.
