Saundersfoot: Footballers in savage attack
A MAN attacked by two Narberth football players was told on Friday (Feb 27) he can sue them for damages following “a savage attack” in a Saundersfoot nightclub.
Kyle Alan Quartermaine and Ashley David Williams were caught on CCTV cameras in the gents toilet at Sands nightclub beating Ben Lloyd Williams.
Quartermaine, of Halkon Crescent, Narberth, and Williams, of Cold Blow, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.
Quartermaine also admitted assaulting Mr Williams’ friend, Owain Gryfydd Davies when he tried to help him.
Dyfed Thomas, prosecuting, told Swansea Crown Court how Williams confronted Mr Lloyd Williams, who was celebrating his twenty-first birthday, inside a cubicle on September 21 last year.
Williams pushed a finger into his eye and punched him several times. Quartermaine delivered one heavy punch.
Judge Heywood described the attack as “unprovoked and cowardly” and said Mr Davies had been assaulted just for being public spirited enough to try to save his friend from further injury.
The court heard that because of his injuries Mr Lloyd Williams had lost a contract that could have led to more work.
Judge Heywood said he was free to pursue the defendants for compensation through the county court.
And he warned Quartermaine and Williams that if they continued to be violent the court would “look very seriously” at sending them to prison.
They were each made the subject of a 12 month community order and to pay Mr Lloyd Williams £500 each.
That, said Judge Heywood, would not affect Mr Lloyd Williams’ right to take civil action.
They were also ordered to carry out 175 hours of unpaid work for the community and to pay court costs of £150 each.

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.

This is yet another example of followers of the ‘beautiful game’ indulging in hideous, ugly behaviour. And of course there are other higher profile examples of criminal behaviour perpetrated by professional players, I am sure, circulating in the minds of many people…..particularly those who suspect that football is a national substitute for otherwise productive employment in nationalised industries, proper education, and effective industrial management.
The reputation of England and Wales is becoming a joke among rational Americans and Europeans, who look at us sometimes as just a bunch of badly educated drunken and thuggish louts; who are bad sports, having bad diets, living in old, crumbling houses and who seem to be stuck in kind of timewarp of depressingly weekly cycles involving poor customer service skills, often crummy results in the area of trade-skills, rip-off prices, and kind of climactic end-of-week inebriation experience, followed by loose bowels on Sundays.
