Tenby win the league
League 2 West
Pontyberem 5
Tenby United 53
TENBY UNITED are celebrating after they thumped Pontyberem 53-5 to win the League 2 West title on Saturday (May 6).
The Seasiders went in to the game knowing they had secured promotion but were keen to finish the season in style by claiming the title.
Pontyberem had also won their previous four matches and the Seasiders knew they would be in for a tough afternoon despite beating them 57-19 at Heywood Lane earlier in the season.
However, they were very rarely troubled against a Pontyberem side who sat in mid-table with little to play for in their final game of the season.
Tenby held a 27-0 lead at the break and they continued to dominate in the second half to come away with an emphatic win.
They went ahead with a well worked try which was scored by Luke Hansford and Ashley Sutton then added the extra two points.
Andrew Cook then went over for Tenby’s second try which was also converted by Sutton.
Luke Dedman put Tenby in an even better position as he scored their third try of the game and Sutton converted for a 21-0 lead.
Sutton also added two penalties to give them an emphatic lead at the break and Tenby knew they were half way to claiming the title.
They continued to pile the pressure on in the second half and it wasn’t long before they scored their fourth try to give them a bonus point. Johnny Morgan broke through to score but the conversion attempt was missed.
Jack Guerreiro then claimed the first of two tries as Tenby continued to play well.
Ryan Morgan grabbed a consolation try for Pontyberem but that was as good as it got for the home side as the conversion was missed and Guerreiro powered over for his second try moments later.
Sutton then scored a try of his own and he completed the victory with the conversion to put the seal on a memorable title-clinching victory.
It has been a fantastic season for Tenby who finished with just four defeats to their name and with an excellent 16 wins.
The Seasiders will look to make their season even more memorable on Friday (May 12) when they take on Aberystwyth in the final of the Pembs KO Cup, kick off at 6:45pm in Crymych.

Promotion, relegation and everything in between.
As we come to the end of the 2023-2024 season it’s time to look at the winners and losers so to speak as most promotion and relegation battles are now all sewn up.
We begin at the very top where Goodwick United have blown away the first division to become deserved champions elect. At the opposite end of the table Fishguard Sports struggled all season and we comfortably relegated, going down with them are Neyland who’s relegation was confirmed a few weeks ago. Neither team were cut adrift and battled right until the end which is credit to both outfits, sometimes relegation can act as a spring broad and both clubs will be hoping this is the case.
Monkton Swifts reserves were the outstanding team in the second division and were a cut above the rest on their journey to becoming league champions on 56 points with an impressive plus 61 goal difference. As Monkton can’t be promoted due to their first team being in the first division it allowed both Herbrandston and St Ishmaels to be promoted. Herbrandston finished in third on 40 points, whilst the Mice just beat them to second place ending up on 42 points. Both clubs will now use the summer to prepare for the step up that awaits.
At the opposite end of the division, Cosheston never really got going and after their points deduction ended on a lowly 6 points which is never going to be enough to avoid relegation. The second relegation place was much closer with St Clears, Carew reserves and Broad Haven all being in a dog fight for the majority of the season. Broad Haven showed good fight and character which steered them clear of trouble while Carew found form at a key time, which means St Clears will play their football in the third division next season.
