Haverfordwest: Protesters call for action following assault arrests

THE HERALD attended a peaceful protest at Gerald Road, Haverfordwest, last night (Jul 5) as locals demanded that certain residents, who they said regularly caused trouble, were removed from the area.

The protest follows five people being arrested in connection with the assault of a woman at West Court, Haverfordwest, on Tuesday night (Jul 3).

The following morning (Jul 4) armed police arrested five people in North Court, Haverfordwest.

The Herald understands that some of those arrested in the armed raid had been released on bail and were the focus of the protest.

Between 8pm and 9pm, approximately 50 people took to the streets on Gerald Road, with three police cars and a riot van at the scene.

One of the locals who attended the protest has told this newspaper that police removed the residents who were the focus of the protest away from the area.

Pembrokeshire Chief Inspector Mark McSweeney said: “Patrols of the area are continuing to maintain public safety and reassurance.

“There is an ongoing investigation into the assault in West Court which will require time to progress.

“I would appeal to members of the public not to take matters into their own hands and allow police to do their job.

“Large groups of persons gathering outside addresses are not helpful and tie up vital resources which are needed to maintain policing across Pembrokeshire.”

Council warns of icy conditions as temperatures drop

ROAD users in Pembrokeshire are being urged to exercise caution tonight as temperatures are forecast to dip below freezing.

Pembrokeshire County Council has announced that road surface temperatures could reach as low as -2°C, with the possibility of sleet or snow on higher ground. In response, precautionary salting of the county’s primary routes will be carried out this evening and overnight.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Road users are advised to take care if travelling on untreated roads.”

Motorists are reminded to plan ahead and drive carefully, particularly in areas that may not have been treated.

The market will take place at the Lower Charles Street Car Park, promising a vibrant mix of stalls and attractions. Organizers are seeking a variety of vendors, including those offering gifts, children’s toys and games, food, cakes, flowers, and more.
