Neyland win again
NEYLAND edged closer to sealing the Division 1 title on Saturday (Aug 3) as they beat Llangwm by nine wickets.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat and that proved to be a good decision as they bowled Llangwm out for just 120.
They had, however, made a good start as openers Will Beresford and Joseph Kiff put on 73 runs for the first wicket partnership.
Kiff hit nine fours in his knock of 41 but he was then caught by Ross Hardy off the bowling of Henry Durrant.
Beresford hit five fours and a six in his score of 33 but he was then caught by George Evans off the bowling of Tom Pritchard.
That left Llangwm on 87-2 but that soon became 91-4 as Andrew Miller trapped Gary Phillips leg before and Nick Koomen ran out Noah Davies.
Miller then struck again as he had Phil Llewellyn caught by Ross Hardy.
He also then caught and bowled James Venables and did the same to Ollie Davies moments later.
Hardy then bowled David Lewis before Miller had Thomas Carrington caught by Koomen.
That gave Miller his fifth wicket as he finished with excellent figures of 5-13 from his seven overs.
Hardy then brought the innings to a close as he had Joe Phillips caught by Sean Hannon.
Only Llangwm’s openers reached double figures while Neyland were guilty of giving away 17 runs in extras.
Neyland openers Nick Koomen and Patrick Bellerby made a similarly good start to their innings as they shared 74 runs before the first wicket fell.
Ollie Davies bowled Bellerby on a score of 28 but Llangwm were unable to take any further wickets.
Sutton smashed four fours and two sixes as he raced to a score of 30 not out while Koomen played another top knock to finish unbeaten on 64 (11 fours).
On Saturday (Aug 10), Neyland travel to second place Lawrenny with the leaders currently holding a 45-point lead over their nearest challengers.
Llangwm also face a crucial game in their bid to beat the drop as they face second from bottom Burton at Pill Parks.

Promotion, relegation and everything in between.
As we come to the end of the 2023-2024 season it’s time to look at the winners and losers so to speak as most promotion and relegation battles are now all sewn up.
We begin at the very top where Goodwick United have blown away the first division to become deserved champions elect. At the opposite end of the table Fishguard Sports struggled all season and we comfortably relegated, going down with them are Neyland who’s relegation was confirmed a few weeks ago. Neither team were cut adrift and battled right until the end which is credit to both outfits, sometimes relegation can act as a spring broad and both clubs will be hoping this is the case.
Monkton Swifts reserves were the outstanding team in the second division and were a cut above the rest on their journey to becoming league champions on 56 points with an impressive plus 61 goal difference. As Monkton can’t be promoted due to their first team being in the first division it allowed both Herbrandston and St Ishmaels to be promoted. Herbrandston finished in third on 40 points, whilst the Mice just beat them to second place ending up on 42 points. Both clubs will now use the summer to prepare for the step up that awaits.
At the opposite end of the division, Cosheston never really got going and after their points deduction ended on a lowly 6 points which is never going to be enough to avoid relegation. The second relegation place was much closer with St Clears, Carew reserves and Broad Haven all being in a dog fight for the majority of the season. Broad Haven showed good fight and character which steered them clear of trouble while Carew found form at a key time, which means St Clears will play their football in the third division next season.
