THE BLUEBIRDS fell to defeat in North Wales as three second-half goals from Cefn Druids saw off the visitors’ challenge.

The first shot of the game came from Alex Darlington who fired wide of Gajda’s goal in the 2nd minute from a Druids free-kick. The Bluebirds’ first attempt of the game came from an Elliot Scotcher free-kick, who sent his 35 yard strike just wide of the post.

After a bright opening, the match tightened up, with neither team able to take control of the ball.

Such half chances as were created during the opening period fell to the Druids.

Edge, for the home team, got the best chance early on. He won the ball back just outside the Bluebirds box but fired his chance high and wide.

Shortly after though, Haverfordwest created a very good chance as a ball over the top saw forward Mark Jones in on goal by Druids keeper and skipper Michael Jones produced a fantastic reaction save down low to deny him, and the follow up was blasted over by Marcus Griffiths after some frantic defending by Druids.

Druids then took the lead as Arsan crossed from the left for Cody Ruberto to finish to put the home side ahead.

Shortly after, Gajda kept the Bluebirds in the game as he got down to stop an Edge strike from point-blank range.

Gajda was called upon again as Darlington fired a volley towards goal from the edge of the box, but it was straight at the Haverfordwest stopper.

The Druids continued to apply pressure as soon as the second half began.

Alex Darlington had the first chance of the second half as he raced through on goal, but as he was one-on-one with Gajda he dragged his shot wide. Druids then doubled their lead, Gajda made a smart stop from an Azimale header but the same man poked in the rebound.

Azimale almost made it 3 to the home side but his strike from close range was well-saved by Gajda.

The Bluebirds continued to try and break down the home side.

Marcus Griffiths chased down a ball over the top, but his shot was smothered well by the Druids keeper, Michael Jones, denying the Bluebirds a way back into the game.

Then on 70 minutes, Druids hit a third.

Darlington found himself in a great position on the side of the box; however, instead of shooting, he found Edge in a better position with a delightful dinked cross. Edge fired past Wojciech Gajda to put the Druids 3-0 up with only twenty minutes to play.

The game was opening up at this point and only minutes later Haverfordwest sparked a glimmer of hope of a comeback after a mix up at the back allowed Jack Wilson to sneak in and cleverly lob the ball over Jones into the back of the net.

Haverfordwest now pressed forward for another and had a solid spell of possession, pinning the Druids back.

Minutes before the final whistle, Druids won a free-kick on the edge of the box.

Jonny Taylor, who had been on the pitch for only a minute or so, saw Niall Flint running into space. He played a clever quick free-kick, putting Flint through on goal while the Haverfordwest defence was caught napping.

Flint found the bottom corner to make it 4-1 and seal a deserved three points for the Premier’s bottom team.

The win sees the Druids move off the bottom of the table to only 1 point behind both Aberystwyth and Newtown.

Five youth team players earn praise after impressing at championship level

CRYMYCH RUGBY CLUB has hailed the contribution of five of its youth players after they stepped up to feature in a senior side at championship level.

The young players, who remain part of the club’s youth setup, were given the opportunity to test themselves in a higher-level fixture, and impressed coaches and supporters alike with their attitude and commitment on the field.

Club representatives said it was “fantastic to see” the dedication shown by the youngsters, who rose to the occasion in what was described as a special experience for both the players and the club.

The match provided a valuable opportunity for development, allowing the next generation of Crymych players to gain experience in a more competitive environment while contributing to the senior squad.

The rugby club said the move reflects its long-term focus on nurturing homegrown talent and creating a clear pathway from youth rugby into the senior game.

Officials added that the future of the club looks bright, with the performance of the young “Teirw” – or Bulls – offering reassurance that the next generation is ready to carry the club forward.

The club congratulated the players on their achievement and said it hopes to see more youth players progressing through the ranks in the coming seasons.

Under 13s and under 14s progress after District H finals day success

TENBY UNITED RFC’s junior sides enjoyed a memorable District H finals day, with two age groups securing victories and places in the West Wales cup finals.

The club’s under 13s lifted silverware after beating Crymych 32-17, while the under 14s edged a thrilling contest against Neyland, winning 18-17.

Tenby’s under 12s were also involved in a close match, narrowly losing 31-28 to Haverfordwest.

The under 13s and under 14s will now go on to represent the club at the West Wales cup finals at Parc y Scarlets on May 24.

Tenby United RFC congratulated the young Swifts on their achievements, saying: “Well done Swifts.”

Carew set early pace as rain disrupts Pembrokeshire cricket programme

RAIN played a major part in Week 2 of the Nicholas Insurance Thomas Carroll Pembroke County Cricket League, with several Division 1 fixtures abandoned after strong first-innings performances.

Carew made the biggest statement in the top flight, cruising to a ten-wicket win over St Ishmaels to move clear at the top of the table.

St Ishmaels were bowled out for 110, with Tim Hicks (3-18), Shaun Whitfield (3-14) and Logan Hall (2-27) doing the damage. Carew then eased to 111-0, Hicks completing an outstanding all-round display with 55 not out, alongside Morgan Grieve’s unbeaten 54.

Elsewhere, Narberth piled up 301-7 before rain intervened against Herbrandston, Jamie McCormack hitting a superb 104. Lawrenny (297-7) and Burton (203-7) also posted big totals before the weather had the final say.

Johnston sit top after a dominant 135-run win over Llangwm, powered by Lewis Boswell’s 99 and Steve Mills’ 62.

Hook maintained their perfect start, edging Haverfordwest by four wickets, while Cresselly II brushed aside Llechryd by nine wickets after bowling them out for just 41.
