Pembrokeshire’s Annwn recognised as one of world’s top restaurants

Published

on

NARBETH restaurant Annwn has received the latest in a string of accolades: inclusion on the prestigious worldwide restaurant selection, La Liste.

The illustrious guide, based in Paris, uses reviews, guidebooks and chef’s recommendations to formulate a score out of 100. Annwn scored 90 which places it well up the thousand-strong list.

Annwn’s chef patron Matt Powell says he is delighted with the result.

“I was just looking through the list on Thursday morning when it came out. I wasn’t expecting to be on it at all, and then all of a sudden there we were,” he said. “It was mind blowing really.”

Annwn is an intimate space with only ten covers where each diner gets to experience the theatre of Matt cooking his dishes in an open kitchen, which are then served at the table by Matt himself, assisted by his partner Naomi.

Many of the ingredients used are foraged from Pembrokeshire’s shoreline and countryside. The menu changes throughout the seasons, reflecting the diversity of the local Welsh ecosystem and the quality of local suppliers. Local lamb, lobster, prawns and sewin all make an appearance throughout the year.

Matt is a staunch supporter of Welsh ingredients and a keen student of historic Welsh cuisine.

” My goal has always been to put Annwn on the world stage and to be recognised as a Welsh restaurant that is striving to reinvent Welsh cuisine – to look at our past and food history, to ask questions,” he says. “For me it’s all about studying these old traditions. To learn, recreate and refine.

Annwn was located at Lawrenny from September 2021 until September 2022, during which time it was named as number 14 in the Good Food Guide’s 20 Most Exciting Restaurants.

On May 12 the restaurant opened its doors in a new home in Narberth, where it has since been awarded a place in the Michelin Guide.

Matt says inclusion in La Liste is the icing on the cake.

“To make this start on such a solid base and to be named among the great chefs and restaurants in the world is just amazing,” he says.

How to choose your first computer setup

Published

on

Choosing the right computer setup can be incredibly tricky. To help you make an informed decision, here are a few things to consider when choosing a computer setup.

Usage

Different devices offer various benefits. So, when determining which device to select, the first thing to think about is its primary function.

Work

If you’re purchasing a computer primarily for work purposes, a device that is capable of running multiple applications concurrently whilst retaining speed and ease of use would be beneficial. If you travel for work, you also need to consider portability.

Creative activities

If you need a computer for more creative endeavours such as video editing, music production, or graphic design, you should look at devices that can cope with the demands of editing and production software. Search for devices with a powerful CPU (central processing unit), plenty of RAM (random access memory), and significant storage capacity.

Gaming

If gaming is your main concern, opting for something with high-performance graphics, generous RAM, fast processors, and adequate cooling capabilities would be favourable. However, if your gaming habits consist of something lighter, such as playing simple online casino games or web browser games, these additions are less essential.

General use

If you will primarily be using your computer to facilitate day-to-day activities such as online shopping, basic streaming services, and generally browsing the web, then something simple and easy to use might be a better fit.

Type of device: Laptop vs desktop

Laptops and desktops both have their pros and cons, but one will generally be more suitable than the other, depending on your requirements.

Desktops

Typically, desktop devices offer enhanced performance, more durability, better customisation, and are easier to upgrade in comparison to laptops. However, they do require more space and can be more expensive to purchase upfront.

Laptops

Laptops on the other hand, are much more convenient, providing complete portability. They’re also generally lower in price than desktop PCs. However, laptops are limited when it comes to upgrades and may need to be replaced sooner than a desktop.

Which is best?

If you need something portable and convenient and aren’t using it for activities which require more power, a laptop may be a more suitable option. If you need something with more power and are looking for durability and longevity, a desktop PC might be more appropriate.

Budget

Budget also plays a significant role in choosing your computer setup. Before making a decision, consider whether you want to spend a little more on a long-term setup or opt for something that is slightly more affordable upfront but can potentially be upgraded later down the line.

Where to purchase a laptop or PC

There are plenty of dedicated computer shops in Wales that can lend you a hand in making the right decision for your needs. Alternatively, if you want to keep costs down, consider shopping for deals or looking for second hand devices on a site such as eBay or Facebook Marketplace.

Adding to the excitement, Marcus Gad is anticipated to join the lineup, though this awaits final confirmation, as stated in a recent newsletter to the festival’s mailing list.

The much-loved festival, renowned for its vibrant blend of music and arts, is gearing up for its milestone year. Organisers are urging festival-goers to secure their spots early, as campervan spaces, dog passes, and parking permits are in limited supply.

Early bird tickets for Unearthed 2025 sold out in record time, a testament to the festival’s enduring popularity among its dedicated fan base.

In a statement to attendees, the festival team said: “These epic artists are Unearthed icons, and as it’s our 10th anniversary festival, we couldn’t imagine celebrating without them.”

To mark the occasion, a redesigned festival website was unveiled last Friday, alongside the opening of applications for performers, volunteers, traders, and other contributors. The team encourages prompt submissions to ensure a chance to participate in this landmark event.

Adding to the festive spirit, organisers have also extended an invitation to their New Year’s Eve party—a warm-up to the main event next summer.
