Petition demanding resignation of Neyland councillor sparks public outcry
A PETITION demanding the resignation of Neyland Town Councillor Mike Harry has ignited heated debate in the community. The petition, launched by Nicholas Wilson, alleges that Cllr Harry made inappropriate remarks in an email, referring to certain individuals as “degenerates.” It has since garnered attention, with residents calling for accountability.
The petition states that Cllr Harry’s remarks are “unbecoming of a public representative” and demand his immediate removal from office. The comments in question, which were included in an email circulated among council members, referred to individuals associated with a group critical of council decisions.
This extraordinary meeting of Neyland Town Council, scheduled for Thursday (Jan 16) at 6:00pm, will be held in the Viewing Gallery at Neyland Community Hub due to the usual meeting rooms being unavailable. Notably, this meeting comes after months of internal conflict – the last council meeting took place in November 2024.
The agenda for Thursday’s meeting is narrowly focused on one issue: the discussion and confirmation of the council’s budget and precept for 2025/26.
In response to the controversy, Cllr Harry clarified that his comments were directed at individuals, not Neyland residents as a whole. He has further highlighted previous issues involving those individuals, including their role in a self-organised and unauthorised meeting.
He also defended his position regarding the allegations of prejudicial interests, contrasting his actions with those of former Councillor Brian Rothero, who resigned over such allegations in the past.
Cllr Harry maintains that the ongoing disputes stem from a small and vocal group, which he described in his email as a “noisy, irrelevant minority.”
Community divided
The situation has further polarised Neyland, with some residents supporting Cllr Harry and others signing the petition calling for his resignation. The council’s internal divisions have significantly delayed its work, and many in the community are eager to see progress on pressing local matters.
The Herald understands that this petition is one of several examples of growing frustrations within the council and the broader community.
Correction and transparency
This article has been updated to show the last council meeting was in November 2024 and not October 2024 as previously incorrectly reported, and we have included clarification regarding Cllr Harry’s comments at his request.

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
