Narberth come from behind to earn point

NARBERTH came from two goals down in the second half to ensure they came away from Goodwick with a well-earned point.

Both sides are in good form and the draw for Goodwick means they are now unbeaten in six while Narberth haven’t lost for three games.

Prior to kick-off a minutes silence was held in memory of Barty Carty, a lifelong supporter of Goodwick, who passed away recently.

The visitors were missing a couple of regulars but they got off to a terrific start taking the lead after three minutes. They broke down the left and when the ball was played out to the right wing where Jordan Williams found himself in acres of space and his low shot beat James Gwilt in the Goodwick goal.

Goodwick settled and began to put together some neat passing moves and Jon Durbridge in the Narberth goal was called on twice to prevent the home side equalising.

On 20 minutes Rob Morgans was brought down on the halfway line, he quickly took the free kick and found Rhys Dalling who turned a defender and fired the ball into the Narberth net.

Morgans nearly put Goodwick ahead when his free kick from 30 yards was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Durbridge.

Goodwick took the lead on 30 minutes when a throw in found Morgans free in the penalty area and his cross found Jonny Horgan, unmarked at the far post, and he volleyed the ball past Durbridge.

Goodwick had a great start to the second half when Steffan Hayes made a strong burst into the Narberth box. The ball broke to Dalling who shot from the edge of the box and his effort found the corner of the net despite Durbridge getting a hand to the ball.

Goodwick were now well on top and appeared to be heading for a comfortable win. Narberth continued to battle and with an hour gone they gained a free kick 40 yards out. The ball was played into the area and Gwilt came out to claim it but was beaten to it by Narberth’s Adi Jones whose header found the Goodwick net.

Within five minutes the teams were level when a Narberth through ball found Callum O’Connell who finished neatly.

Goodwick were shell shocked but kept on creating chances but Durbridge was defiant in the Narberth goal. Morgans did beat him from a free kick 25 yards out but his effort hit the crossbar.

Another free kick found Wayne O’Sullivan who turned in the box and hit a fierce shot which was deflected onto the crossbar by Durbridge.

Narberth were defending deep and trying to hit Goodwick on the break. O’Connell found himself free on the right but his effort went wide of the far post.

Referee Dave Badger brought a very entertaining game to an end but the home side will be disappointed not to have claimed the three points.

Next weekend, Goodwick welcome Neyland, who are also unbeaten in six games, in what should be a thrilling encounter.

Herbrandston 0 – St Ishmaels 6

BRENNAN DEVONALD delivered a masterclass as St Ishmaels thrashed Herbrandston 6-0, with the skipper leading from the front and scoring a stunning hat-trick. The comprehensive victory propels St Ishmaels to eighth in the league table, while Herbrandston remain rooted to the bottom without a single point.

The visitors asserted their dominance from the outset. Devonald opened the scoring in the 9th minute, latching onto a pinpoint assist from Owen Lawrence. He doubled their lead just before halftime in the 40th minute, again set up by Lawrence, giving St Ishmaels a comfortable cushion at the break.

St Ishmaels maintained their momentum in the second half, adding four more goals to cap off a stellar team performance. Adam Kingsbeer’s clever play set up Ieuan Hawkins for the third, before Tom Williams capitalised on another opportunity to make it 4-0. Devonald sealed his hat-trick in the 85th minute with an expertly taken goal, and Joel Mills added the finishing touch in the dying moments, courtesy of an assist from Sol Goodall.

Goodwick United put on a commanding performance with a 7-0 triumph over Carew. The home side proved too powerful for their opponents, with Rhys Dalling and Rhys Jones each bagging two goals. Matty Delaney, Will Haworth, and Daniel Bryce also got their names on the scoresheet. Nathan Evans was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick, while Tom Jago, Jason Griffiths, Hayden Dimond, and Ashton Plunkett all found the back of the net. Treboeth’s Liam Manning, Cori Jones, and Matthew Colley fought valiantly but could not prevent the home side from taking the win.
