Haverfordwest: Candle lit vigil for victims of Paris attacks
A CANDLE lit vigil will be held in Haverfordwest on Friday to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris.
Pembrokeshire County Council Chairman, Councillor Wynne Evans, and Haverfordwest Mayor, Councillor Sue Murray, will be taking part in the vigil at the War Memorial in Haverfordwest at 5.30 pm on Friday (Nov 20) in memory of those who perished in the Paris attacks.
Members of the public are invited to attend and to take part in the ceremony.
Cllr Evans has also written to the French Ambassador to the UK to express the sympathy of the Pembrokeshire people in the wake of the atrocities.
As the flags flew at half mast at County Hall, Councillor Evans said: “Freedom-loving people everywhere will be shocked by this outrage”
Cllr Evans confirmed to the herald that a number of organisations have been invited to attend the event, including the police, ambulance and fire and rescue services.
“I expect this will be quite a large scale event”, he said.
As a mark of respect, flags have been flown at half-mast outside County Hall in Haverfordwest and County Council staff observed the Europe-wide one minute silence on Monday morning.
In Milford Haven, the town’s mayor, Cllr Stephen Joseph opened a book of condolences and lowered the flag at the town hall to half mast.
Cllr Joseph said that he had contacted the mayor of Milford’s twin town, Romily-sur-Seine, to offer the support and sympathy of the people of Milford Haven.
“I hope as many people from Milford come to sign the book as possible” he said.

Mother admits to killing seven-year-old son in Haverfordwest
A mother has admitted to the manslaughter of her seven-year-old son at their home in Haverfordwest, citing diminished responsibility.
Papaipit Linse, 43, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Friday (Nov 22), where she denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of her son, Louis Linse. Prosecutor Caroline Rees KC confirmed the manslaughter plea would be accepted, stating it “did not come as a surprise” to the prosecution.
The incident occurred on 10 January when police were called to a property on Upper Market Street. Louis was rushed to Withybush General Hospital but tragically died shortly afterwards.
During the hearing, Linse, who spoke only to confirm her name and enter her pleas, was informed that she would be sentenced on 13 December. Judge Paul Thomas KC described the case as “clearly a very sensitive as well as a very tragic case.”
The court was told that Linse is currently receiving treatment at the Caswell Clinic, a mental health facility in Bridgend. Psychiatric evidence is expected to be presented during the sentencing hearing to provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding the case.
