Litter pickers brave the elements

Volunteers: 17 people braved the elements to help clean up Pembroke Dock
THIS MONTH in Pembroke Dock there was a brilliant turnout for the Litter Pick despite the awful weather.
All the volunteers got soaked but like loyal volunteers they braved the elements.
There were 17 altogether and after much hard work 20 Bags were collected in total and most of those were from Gas house Lane and along the public path behind the Welshman’s Arms.
Mayor of Pembroke Dock Peter Kraus said: “This seems to be a Black Spot in our Town. We are doing our very best to get our lovely Town litter free to attract tourists and also for the public to enjoy the scenery, something has to be done.
“We now have companies who are helping with this enormous task including Tesco, MacDonald’s and Asda who join us on a regular basis.
“This month, Tesco was the meeting place for refreshments and I would like to say a massive thank you to Sharon and the fantastic staff who looked after us so well.”
In February there will be another Litter Pick which will be on Thursday, February 25, starting at Tesco Main Entrance.
The Mayor also hopes that the Schools will get involved especially The Community School on Bush Street and the Pennar Community School.
Peter Kraus continued: “It is so important to teach children about dropping litter at a young age so that they could possibly teach some of the parents not to drop litter anywhere and the danger it can be to animals.
“Together we can make our Town a cleaner litter free place to live in and we are doing our bit to help.”

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
