Cardigan: Four men accused of sexual offences against 14-year old girl

FOUR MEN are on trial at Swansea Crown Court accused of having sex with the same fourteen year old girl on the same night.

The girl told Police she willingly had sex with three of the men but later woke to find a fourth man, a stranger, having intercourse with her.

Prosecuting, Mr James Jenkins told the jury that the issue of ‘consent’ must not enter their considerations, as the victim was under the legal age to consent to sexual contact of any kind.

Rhys Michael Jones, aged 18, of 10 Maes y Felin, has admitted sexual activity with a child by vaginal penetration with his penis between October 17 and October 20, 2014.

Jason Williams, aged 20, of 24 Maes yr Haf, and Mark Jones, 22, of Pant y Grwndi Farm, Fishguard are on trial at Swansea Crown Court having entered pleas of not guilty to the same charge.

Alongside them in the dock is Kamil Anton, 28, of Mandalay, Gwbert. He denies raping the girl and also denies a second charge of sexual activity with a child by vaginal penetration with his penis.

The girl told police in a video-taped interview that was played to the jury that on October 18, 2014, she had met up with Rhys Jones in a pizza restaurant in Cardigan.

She went back to his flat and had sexual intercourse with him.

At one stage she had intercourse with Williams before performing oral sex on him and at another point was in bed with both Rhys Jones and Mark Jones.

The teenager said she eventually fell asleep, but awoke because she was in pain.

Anton was having intercourse with her, she said, and when she struggled he pulled her hair.

She said Rhys Jones was asleep next to her at the time and she tried to wake him up but failed.

“I didn’t have a clue who he (Anton) was. I knew the other three. I don’t know how my clothes came off.

“I was scared and confused,” she said.

She said after sex Anton asked her how old she was.

“I said I was fourteen. He said oh shit, I’m twenty eight,” she alleged.

The girl will be cross examined by barristers representing the defendants tomorrow (Tues).

James Jenkins, prosecuting, told the jury that in relation to Williams and Jones consent did not come into it—the girl was under aged.

Anton, said Mr Jenkins, did not even bother to find out how old she was.

“She woke to find Anton holding her down and penetrating her with his penis. The prosecution say that is rape,” he added.

The trial continues.

Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance

FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.

Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.

Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
