Hundy push Wizards all the way

hundy pushMerlins Bridge 5 Hundleton 2

THE Wizards got their expected victory on the Racecourse, but Hundleton pushed them all the way, and had they taken their chances the score would have been much closer.

The Bridge opened the scoring after four minutes when keeper Carl Woodhouse’s long kick found Steve McNabney whose effect found the corner of the net. But after 15 minutes the scores were level when a long ball from Gideon Hockin found Jason Donahue who volleyed home from 18 yards.

The same Hundleton player had a glorious chance to take the lead five minutes later when the ball was knocked down to him in the box, but he blasted over. The best chance Hundleton had in the first half was when Jason Donahue got behind the Bridge defence and passed to Thomas Powell who inexplicably missed the net from three yards.

The Bridge took the lead again after 27 minutes when Nathan Green latched onto a through ball and beat the keeper easily. Hundleton were still carving out chances and minutes later Hockin again found Powell unmarked in the box, his effort being well saved by Woodhouse.

The Bridge then took control of the game with two goals before half time. The first was provided by Greene who passed to McNabney who placed the ball in the corner of the net. The second was provided by Greene again when he played Simon Thomas into the box who made no mistake.

Unbelievably Hundleton scored another in the dying minutes of the half, when Jason Donahue latched onto a bouncing ball and lashed the ball home.

Hundleton tightened things up in the second half and restricted the Bridge to a solitary goal when Greene volleyed home in the 65th minute.

A good display from the Bridge, but if Hundleton had taken their chances the scoreline would have been much closer.
