Green Acres ask for support as they treat ill puppy

Published

on

GREEN ACRES ANIMAL RESCUE are striving to save a very ill Doberman puppy, calling for anyone who can donate money towards treatment.

On Monday (Sept 3), Green Acres Animal Rescue Manager Mikey Lawlor was told about an ill Doberman in desperate need of treatment. The 10 week old dog was severely dehydrated with obvious gastrointestinal problems, and so was hospitalised and put on a drip.

Mikey christened him Remus as he was put on a heat pad and drip, before Tuesday’s scans forced the vets to take urgent action.

Green Acres Animal Rescue said: “He had an abdominal scan which revealed he had some thickening of the intestine and our vets suspected Intussusception of the bowel. Emergency surgery was needed but our vets feared it may be too late and gave a very guarded prognosis.

“So surgery went ahead and our vets removed over a metre of his intestines. The surgery was successful and went as well as it could be expected but he is still not out of the woods.

“Remus has a wonderful foster home available just a few minutes from the vets for when he can be discharged. We pray this will be in a couple of days.”

Mikey went on to post: “I refuse to give up on an animal because of a financial implication so the last thing I say to the vet each time is ‘whatever he needs he will have’ and so far it’s working!

“Am I sure he will survive? Honestly? No I’m not, but there’s one thing I can be sure of and that’s he had a much better chance than he did if we’d have done nothing.

“Remus’ bill stands at £2,500 so far, so I am asking all my wonderful animal loving friends to donate just a couple of pound! It would be a huge help and his treatment will be ongoing for sometime so will mean we can keep giving him the absolute best.

“Thank you to those already donated and thank you for your kind words, prayers and wishes.

“Huge thank you to Liz Price of Doberman Rescue UK and Europe for her support through this worrying time. Please pray for Remus.”

On Wednesday (Sept 5), Mikey posted: “I don’t want to tempt fate and he’s really not out of the woods but Remus is definitely looking brighter. He’s shown some interest in a tiny amount of food and is enjoying all the fuss.
“Keep praying for him guys! We are still in the very early days.”

Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance

FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.

Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.

Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
