Epic charity feat involving cycling, running and walking the equivalent of Earth’s circumference
Players and officials of Bow Street FC have set the whole community a global
challenge over the next 70 days.
In an attempt to outdo Phileas Fog and Monty Python star Michael Palin, this epic
feat involves cycling, running and walking the equivalent of Earth’s circumference – a
whopping 24,860 miles. Led by Bow Street FC players, the challenge is open to all
associated with the club and wider community, be it coaches, junior players, parents,
officials and supporters, with the aim of completing this mammoth task within 70
days, and all safely within the Government’s guidelines on exercise and social
distancing.
The club has set up a JustGiving page
https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/bowstreet-fc to accept donations, which
will be split between the club itself and the following two charities: –
Hywel Dda NHS COVID 19 Appeal – which is directed to support the welfare
and wellbeing of our NHS staff and volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients.
HAHAV – Hospice At Home Aberystwyth Volunteering
Bow Street FC Chairman/spokesman, Wyn Lewis said, ‘I am very proud of those
within the club, the senior players in particular, who initiated this exciting venture,
and if the initial interest is anything to go by, a huge number of people will be
participating.
‘These are challenging days for all community-based sports clubs such as ourselves,
and whilst part of the proceeds will be used to ensure that the infrastructure of Bow
Street FC is ready for either the resumption of this season, or the beginning of the
next season, we felt it was vitally important for us to support local worthy charities at
this critical time.’
‘We all admire our front-line NHS workers, especially so during this crisis and
supporting the Hywel Dda NHS Covid 19 Appeal will be of huge benefit to those
wonderful individuals who work at Bronglais and other hospitals.’
Bow Street Centre Half Tomos Wyn Roberts added – ‘The boys felt that it was also
important to support charities which are not directly linked to Covid 19, but carry out
essential social care work to support those who are suffering long term illness. This
why we have nominated HAHAV as a charity that we support – the work that HAHAV
carry out in our area is hugely admired and appreciated.’
