Currys PC World open select stores in Wales
EIGHT of the nineteen Currys PC World stores opened in Wales yesterday (Jun 22), including the stores in Haverfordwest, Aberystwyth and Carmarthen, Dixons-Carphone has confirmed.
Mark Allsop, Chief Operating Officer told The Pembrokeshire Herald: “Eight of our nineteen Currys PC World stores in Wales opened, following the recent Welsh Government announcement, allowing customers to shop in store. The remainder of our stores in Wales will look to open over the forthcoming weeks, while we work to reopen slowly and safely.
Customer and colleague safety continues to be our highest priority. All stores have reopened with rigorous social distancing and hygiene measures in place, adhering to government standards, to ensure that colleagues feel comfortable in coming back to work and our customers feel safe to visit us. Our colleagues returning back to work have also received specialised briefings and training, with the utmost safety for fellow colleagues and customers in mind. We will maintain extreme vigilance, constantly reviewing and improving our approach to safety in an ever-changing situation.”
Some of the key safety and cleanliness measures introduced include (but are not limited to);
- Limited number of customers allowed in store at one time, with a one-way system and clear floor-markings to keep customers at least 2m apart
- Safety screens at checkouts and service desks to protect everyone, with customers encouraged to use contactless payment if possibleClear in-store signage asking customers to speak to a colleague should they want to see a demo (versus touching the technology themselves) who can then show the product in action safely
- Increased and more regular cleaning and sanitising of trolleys, handrails and products, with protective equipment for colleagues that need it, alongside plenty of anti-bacterial gel dispensers
Working closely on safety measures with the British Retail Consortium and Environmental Health Officers
“Most importantly we’re proud of our colleagues themselves, people who continue to work hard to make sure consumers across the country get the tech they need safely.At the same time, we will continue to make it easy for customers to buy the tech they need. Our website will continue to be open 24/7 with next day home-delivery and same day zero-contact ‘order & collect’ being offered from open stores. And those who prefer to shop from home but want the benefit of expertise to help them make a purchase, can interact with store colleagues using the ShopLive video personal shopping service.”

Mother admits to killing seven-year-old son in Haverfordwest
A mother has admitted to the manslaughter of her seven-year-old son at their home in Haverfordwest, citing diminished responsibility.
Papaipit Linse, 43, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Friday (Nov 22), where she denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of her son, Louis Linse. Prosecutor Caroline Rees KC confirmed the manslaughter plea would be accepted, stating it “did not come as a surprise” to the prosecution.
The incident occurred on 10 January when police were called to a property on Upper Market Street. Louis was rushed to Withybush General Hospital but tragically died shortly afterwards.
During the hearing, Linse, who spoke only to confirm her name and enter her pleas, was informed that she would be sentenced on 13 December. Judge Paul Thomas KC described the case as “clearly a very sensitive as well as a very tragic case.”
The court was told that Linse is currently receiving treatment at the Caswell Clinic, a mental health facility in Bridgend. Psychiatric evidence is expected to be presented during the sentencing hearing to provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding the case.
