Farage tricked into praising Lostprophets sex offender in Cameo prank
REFORM UK leader filmed a paid-for video tribute to “Ian Watkins”, calling him “a good man”, before the clip was shared online
Nigel Farage has been caught out by another prank on the paid video-message platform Cameo after recording what appeared to be a tribute to “Ian Watkins” — the name of the former Lostprophets frontman and convicted child sex offender.
Farage, who offers personalised messages for a fee, filmed a short clip for a requester using the name John Smith. In the video, Farage describes Watkins as “a good man” and “a really good guy”, adding that he “loved his children”, and even suggesting he knew him personally by claiming Watkins had been “very much in contact with me”.
The former Lostprophets singer was serving a 29-year prison sentence for child sex offences when he died in custody last year. Two men have been charged in connection with his death after he was stabbed at HMP Wakefield in October.
It is not the first time Farage has been embarrassed through Cameo. In 2021, he was similarly duped into ending a birthday message with a pro-IRA slogan.
Responding to the latest incident, Farage attempted to brush off the prank, saying there are “lots of Ian Watkins”, thanking the requester for the money and suggesting he should “send more”. He also claimed he had altered the request.
Smith told Metro he had not expected Farage to carry out the filming, and said he was concerned by how easily he was able to obtain a public tribute without any basic checks. He argued the stunt was meant to highlight what he described as Farage’s willingness to say almost anything for cash — and questioned what that might mean if he were dealing with bigger financial backers.
Smith also insisted he was not trying to make light of Watkins’ crimes, saying his aim was to show how quickly Farage would praise a name supplied to him and falsely imply a personal connection. Farage has previously been targeted by prank callers in other settings, including during his time hosting an LBC phone-in show, where he was repeatedly caught off guard live on air.

Whitland Post Office to reopen under new management in March
Full-time service restored after more than two years as mobile unit set to close
WHITLAND Post Office is set to reopen under new management in March, restoring a full-time service to the town after more than two years.
The branch will reopen at the same premises at 13 St John Street, Whitland, SA34 0AN, on Thursday (March 5), with doors opening at 1:00pm.
Whitland Post Office has been temporarily closed since August 2022, following the resignation of the previous postmaster.
Post Office Ltd said the relaunched branch will offer 51 hours of Post Office service each week, with opening hours 9:00am to 5:30pm daily.
The interim Mobile Post Office service, introduced to maintain access for the community, currently operates from King Edward Street car park. That temporary service will cease on Thursday (Feb 26) at 10:45am.
Post Office Area Change Manager Fiona Shanahan said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are delighted that the new owners of the store are re-opening Whitland Post Office. We want to thank the postmaster for Kilgetty for operating the Mobile Post Office service in the interim.”

Calls for Wales to establish financial support fund for struggling older people
THE OLDER People’s Commissioner for Wales has urged the Welsh Government to create a dedicated support scheme for households in financial hardship, warning that older people are being left behind by existing initiatives.
Responding to the announcement of a new Crisis and Resilience Fund in England worth £1bn a year from April, Commissioner Rhian Bowen-Davies said Wales should use any consequential funding to establish a similar scheme here.
She said: “With the announcement that a new Crisis and Resilience fund worth £1bn a year is set to be launched in England from April to provide financial support to households that are struggling, there is an opportunity to use consequential funding to establish a similar scheme here in Wales.
“This is something I have been calling for, including in my recently published Priorities for the Next Welsh Government paper, as the criteria used by existing initiatives often leaves older people who are struggling financially excluded from being able to access vital support.”
The Commissioner said financial hardship carries a heavy cost, not only for individuals but also for public services.
“We know that financial hardship has a significant cost – both in terms of the impact on people’s health and well-being, and the subsequent increased pressures on public services,” she said.
“Investing in tackling these issues would help to prevent people from reaching crisis point, reducing costs and pressures while also – importantly – improving people’s quality of life and supporting them to age well.
“That’s why establishing a Resilience fund must be a priority here in Wales.”

Meghan attends national gala celebrating vital role of young carers
MEGHAN SMYTH, an A-level student and young carer for her disabled sister Mia, has attended Action for Children’s Young Carers’ Gala in London – an event celebrating the determination of young people who care for loved ones.
Having balanced schoolwork with caring responsibilities from an early age, Meghan took to the stage during the Gala to perform live with a band. Her story was also shared in a short film shown to hundreds of guests – a moment she described as unforgettable.
“Watching my video play at the Gala, I found myself looking around, wondering if I was being judged. Instead, I saw genuine warmth on everyone’s faces. In that moment I realised I wasn’t being judged but rather being supported. It truly felt like a dream,” Meghan said.
During the event, Meghan also met celebrities and supporters of the charity, including singer Alexandra Burke, who praised the courage and resilience of young carers across the UK.
Following the Gala, Meghan received a personal invitation from the Princess of Wales to attend a special carol service at Buckingham Palace – a gesture highlighting the importance of recognising and uplifting young carers who can often go unseen.
Action for Children representatives praised Meghan for her dedication and talent, and for the powerful way she shares her lived experience to inspire others.
The charity’s Young Carers’ Gala aims to shine a light on young carers across the UK who juggle education, work and caring responsibilities every day, often without the recognition they deserve.
For Meghan, the evening marked more than a celebration – it was a moment of validation, pride and hope for the future.
