Fostering agency calls for more carers
A LOCAL fostering agency has appealed to people in Pembrokeshire to become foster carers. Independent company, Pathway Care, has asked people to make a ‘positive change’ for 2015 by coming forward to take on the child care role. Pathway Care has launched the ‘Foster15’ campaign, this month, to highlight the shortfall in foster carers. Gareth Walton, operations director for Pathway Care, said: “The number of children in local authority care in Wales has increased by 23 percent over the last five years.
“Pembrokeshire has around 125 children in local authority care who desperately need a safe, nurturing and stable home. We need more foster carers to come forward. “Becoming a foster carer is one of the most rewarding steps you can take – these children are likely to have had a challenging start to their lives and you can be the person who makes the priceless difference to their life by offering them a home and care.
“January is a great time to consider a change and we want Foster15 to raise awareness of this need and urge more people to come forward to find out more about fostering.” Pathway Care is part of Acorn Care and Education, a leading children’s specialist care and education group and provides mainstream foster care and a number of specialist high level foster services, such as Parenting Assessment and Step Down Transitional Care to Local Authorities in England and Wales.
Currently, the company cares for over 470 children and young people. They state that they ‘provide 24 hour support, full training and a generous, almost entirely tax-free financial allowance to foster carers’. New statistics (source: BAAF) showed 5,756 children in Wales were looked after by local authorities from 2013 – 2014.
The statistics also show that 77 percent (4,407) of children looked after on 31st March 2014 were living with foster carers, and further showed that 30 of the children adopted from care in the year ending March 31st 2014 were adopted by their former foster carer, accounting for 9 percent of all adoptions of looked after children. If people are interested in fostering through Pathway Care, they can contact them by visiting their website, www.pathwaycare.com or call them on 0800 1701706.

Tigers second division Cup Champions
In a thrilling Pembrokeshire Division Two Cup final under the floodlights of Bridge Meadow Stadium, fans witnessed an epic battle between Monkton Swifts reserves and Johnston. Despite Monkton Swifts reserves being touted as favorites, Johnston proved their mettle from the outset.
The game kicked off with a burst of energy as Johnston’s center half, Craig Bendall, seized an early opportunity to put his team ahead just ten minutes into the match. However, Monkton Swifts’ prolific Scotsman, Davis, swiftly responded with an equalizer, showcasing the resilience of the favourites.
The momentum shifted again when the dynamic duo of Alfie and Scott Crawford of Johnston orchestrated a beautifully executed goal, putting Johnston back in the lead at 2-1.
As the game progressed, Monkton Swifts brought in reinforcements, including Ben Steele, to regain control. Their efforts paid off when Jordan Kilby leveled the score at 2-2 with just under 20 minutes remaining.
But the Crawfords had other plans. Combining once more, Scott provided the assist for Alfie, who coolly finished to put Johnston ahead once again.
