The high cost lager
A MILFORD HAVEN man was fined £75 for stealing two bottles of lager which had a value of £3.98.
Adrian Thorpe, aged 32, of Priory Road, Milford Haven, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (Feb 17).
Prosecuting, Ellie Morgan said: “On Friday August 22, a call was made to the police by CK’s convenience store in Milford Haven, reporting that a man had been in the store and had stolen some items. One worker noticed the defendant approach the beer counter and he selected a few and walked towards the till area. However, this person noticed that he only had one can of alcohol in his hand when he got to the till. He only purchased one can and the shop assistant went after him to ask if he had stolen anything to which he shrugged his shoulders and walked off. He was seen picking up three cans and putting two of them in his pockets. The cans are valued at £1.99 each and £3.98 in compensation is sought for the other cans. He was interviewed in December and he confirmed that he had gone into the store. He said that he had put the items in his pocket. He said it was a spur of the moment thing. The officers asked if he had enough money to pay for all three cans but he said he just had money to pay for one of them. He was asked what he done with the other cans and he said he had drunk them. Four out of five of his previous convictions relate to theft but he hasn’t been in trouble since 2003.”
Defending, Gareth Phillips said: “He attended on a voluntary basis at Milford Haven Police station and he has been out of the court system since 2003. This is going to turn out to be two very expensive cans of lager.”
The Magistrates fined Thorpe £75 for the theft and he was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and £85 in court costs.
Compensation of £3.98 was also awarded to the CK store.

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
