Hospital campaigner to run for election
LOCAL ‘Save Withybush Action Team’ (SWAT) campaigner, Chris Overton, has announced he will stand in the forthcoming General Election.
In an address on the SWAT Facebook page he stated: “I, Chris Overton, Chairman of SWAT, intend standing as an independent prospective parliamentary candidate in the Preseli Pembrokeshire constituency for The Independent Save Withybush Save Lives Party which has just been registered. I hope to be able to deliver my nomination forms this week. The big two need to be told in no uncertain terms that they can’t take away Pembrokeshire’s lifeline and not pay the price.”
He went on to criticise the main parties, saying: “I genuinely believe that there is an unwritten agreement between Labour and Conservatives to create a situation where the NHS is encouraged to fail. There is a plan somewhere at Westminster to only provide emergency care and cancer care within 10 years. The Labour led Welsh Government seems to be party to this. I want to be elected to do some digging and expose that plan. Withybush is part of that plan and, yes, at first glance it is down to the Welsh Assembly but remember the last time in 2006 Labour was in dual control. Since the coalition there has been no change of direction. When Labour came to power in 1997 we all thought the changes brought in by the Conservatives would be reversed not accelerated. I want to change the direction of travel.”
This week, Wednesday (Mar 4), hundreds of SWAT protestors, led by Mr Overton, descended on the Senedd to protest at what they see as further cuts to Withybush services. Commenting on the protest was the Welsh Secretary, MP Stephen Crabb, who said: “Huge thanks to all the people from across Pembrokeshire travelling up to Cardiff today with SWAT Save Withybush Hospital to protest against Welsh Government cuts to our local health services. We in Pembrokeshire have been fighting this downgrading for 10 years. More important than ever to keep up the pressure.”

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
